Dear collaborators

The first Run25 collisions started around 2AM today. Thanks to the heroic action of the shift crew, detector experts, and CAD, tasks are moving fast with sPHENIX!

  • MBD and calorimeters were timed in around 3AM
  • MVTX background studies have started with input from the donuts and ZDC
  • TPC and TPOT have been turned on and are being tuned with beam
  • Rosi’s slides to 9AM RHIC status meeting as attached for more information.

We would like to ask the detector, calibration and TGs to help check out the initial data.

Please report findings briefly in the daily shift change meetings [link]. And everyone is invited to join the data-checkout workfest starting June 16-27 (as part of collaboration meeting): https://indico.bnl.gov/event/28173/

Best regards

Jin, Megan, Rosi, and Ron

Hi All,
This mail is a little later than usual as I had wanted to be able to announce collisions.  However, it is past midnight and the word is that we won't have collisions before 2 am.  This week the yellow ring was cooled down to 4K, and then beam development commenced.  There were some minor setbacks, such as repairs of a booster power supply and today's issue with a yellow quadrupole.

The MVTX demonstrated that we can not only get the auto-recovery rates, but also get physics meaningful quantities in the form of the acceptance on a fast turn around basis.  This will help with diagnosing RHIC performance.

We want to thank our outgoing shifters, Dylan Neff, Virgile Mahaut, Sasha Lebedev, Muhammad Ibrahim Abdulhamid, Stacyann Nelson, Pedro Nieto-Marin, Christine Nattrass, Apurva Narde, Christal Martin, Jasleen Sandhu, Tanner Mengel, and Justin Bennett.  We want to welcome next week's shifters (Noah Applegate, Stacyann Nelson, Joseph Clement, Alec Ferensic, Daniel Lis, Greg Ottino, Alex Patton, Iftekhar (Ifty) Ahmed, Samuel Liechty, Muhammad Usman Ashraf, Muhammad Ibrahim Abdulhamid, and Jaein Hwang), with the Colorado Boulder team taking a leading role.

Regards,
Rosi and Ron
