Hi,

Henry Hocker just gave me the completed Traveler which contains the results of the Inspection/Acceptance tests.
I put it here :

https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/Shared%20Documents/Inspection%20and%20Acceptance%20Test/Acceptance-Inspection%20Traveler%20(Completed).pdf
{ which is https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/SitePages/Home.aspx => "Shared Documents" => "Inspection and Acceptance Test" }

if you want to take a look.

Subject: a copy of the Traveler ?

Dear Henry,

Ray Ceruti told me that he's returned the Traveler to you.  There are some useful results on the Traveler.  And in any case, in our sPHENX
Magnety meeting yesterday, various participants requested to have a copy.   Could you please send me a copy (electronically scanned or just
paper) of the Traveler so that I may distribute ?

Good Morning Kin,

Yes, we did the Leak check as per the Traveler.  Those travelers incidentally were returned to Henry Hocker when we picked up the area.  The Work Control Permits (green sheets) were set to Peter Cirnigliaro.

Regards,

Ray

Hi Ray,

Thanks for the clarification !!!  So it seems to me that you did do the "leak check" as specified in the "Traveler".

By the way, I couldn't find any folders any more by the sPHENIX magnet.   Did you take them all and/or return to Peter Cirnigliaro or ??

Hi Kin,

We used a mass spectrometer to perform a leak check on the two internal helium cooling circuits within the vacuum vessel.  The mass spectrometer showed there was no leak with the two internal systems held under 81 psig helium pressure for ten minutes each.  The internal systems passed a leak check (at room temperature) with no problem, we did not leak check the outside vacuum vessel for external atmospheric leaks however as it pumped down very well as it was.

Ray

Dear Mike and Roberto,

Ray Ceruti told me the following in the email below.  What he said seems to make sense.

The "traveler" said something about using "mass spectrometer" to do leak check ... Do you guys think it's still necessary to do this ?
If you guys think that it's not necessary, then it's fine with me.   ( It's also possible that I don't get a complete picture from Ray ... )

Can you please advise ??

Hi Kin,

We didn’t perform a leak check on the vacuum vessel.  It pumped down very well and since this unit has been in service before, we didn’t believe it was necessary.

Ray

Dear Ray,

In the meeting when I reported "your complete success", people wonder
whether you've also done the "leak check".   Can you please confirm/let us know ??

In our meeting today, I've checked with P. Joshi/R. Lambiase et. al., they told me that they don't need any vacuum to do their ramp test /
measure inductance etc.   You may shut off the vacuum whenever you see fit.

Hi Ray,

I believe you've finished your pressure test.  Can you please let me know of the outcome ??
