The indico Agenda page "https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1296"
has all the slides today. Briefly I summarize what we've discussed today : (1) We've spent quite a few minutes talking about rotating the sPHENIX Solenoid next Monday (Aug. 3, 2015). Paul Giannotti, Piyush Joshi and their technicians will measure the strain gauges for the present magnet this Friday. We'll try to measure the strain gauges while the magnet is being rotated so that we can see any changes at different angles. (2) After the magnet rotation, D. Phillips will start putting in the platform/railing and R. Ceruti et. al will work on the valvebox leak check. After that, D. Phillips can build support for the valvebox and move valvebox to the solenoid Magnet (3) H. Hocker is waiting for some people in Superconducting Magnet Div. to sign the procedure document for the valvebox leak check so that he can send it to Peter Cirnigliaro in C-AD to finish the work permit. R. Ceruti is taking vacation starting from tomorrow and should come back on Aug. 10, 2015 and he should have the work permit to start work. (4) The only major purchase delay is for the He piping modification. They'll review quotes on Aug. 10, 2015 and make purchase decision. After that, it's expected to take 10 weeks to get the modification done and the Cryo group need the make all Cryo connections before we can do the low-current test. This now seems to be sometime in November. (5) We've also discussed that 2 out of 13 action items have formally been completed/closed. The real difficult item is the arc flash calculation and Jon Sandberg has informed us that he's calculated that the power released is 350 kW (which I believe comes from "70 V * 5000 Amp", after I talked with after the meeting). Roberto will try to make a calculation to see whether the end cap weld would hold. (6) At the end, we've also discussed again the ANSYS results from Jon Cozzolino, especially the fact that the stress after "cool-down" is more or less the same as the stress after "cool-down+full-current-on-the-magnet" (with the highest stress > 60 MPa). Most people generally feel that we need to do more analysis to understand it. John Haggerty has discussed with Pasquale and will approach Ansaldo (or now called "ASG Superconductors") sales office to get a price quote for doing Finite Element analysis on the sPHENIX Magnet. |
