Hi Ray,

I called Paul Giannotti at 3:25:51 pm (from my phone log) and Paul told me that he and Frank Toldo had finished unplugging and plugging the
strain gauge cables and done some testing (for the continuity).    Paul showed me his work in 912.

Paul showed me that there was a cable (inside the doghouse) marked as "shield" which needs to be attached to the heat shield somehow.

Ray: please do talk to the Cryo group (Tom Tallerico/Rich Meier ...) about closing the doghouse.  The Cryo may have their ideas .... (testing/connecting) ...

The Cryo group (I saw Tom Tallerico and Rich Meier this afternoon) were (or even are) still testing their connections >30 minutes ago when I was there.

Then, Paul and I went to Bldg. 902.  I saw 1 rack with power supply down on the floor ... and we finally found Piyush and Sonny in a room upstairs and
they're testing the Quench Detector/DAQ rack.   Next Tue., they'll take that rack down to their floor (in Bldg. 902) --- which had house Cosmotron ~60 years
ago and I saw the circular track left on the floor (... probably more than 1 person told me before but I've never quite registered it in my brain ... Writing
it down may help) --- and tested.  They plan to take both racks to 912 on Jan. 22 and test again in 912.

Shouldn’t this be sent to Ray C?

Paul has done dealing with strain gauge such that he doesn't mind closing doghouse now.  He just showed you.

Sorry about not seeing your e-mails till now, I just got into work a short time ago.  I talked to Paul about 45 minutes ago and he told me that Frank Toldo and himself was going to take care of the work at S-PHENIX.  If that’s not so contact me and I will about helping you out and send a CAS tech.

Hi,

I couldn't reach Joe nor Paul and so I don't know whether they've talked. ... But I just went to their CAS offices in 912 and found Fred Kobasiuk and
informed him of Paul's request of needing one CAS guy at 5 pm today.   He said that it'd be taken off in the usual "confident" fashion that Fred always
has said.

Paul:  I urge you to call Joe (or Fred at x2046  if you can't find Joe) if you haven't .......

Cryo hasn't finished their test for the sensors either ... And I'm not sure whether they've finished their small pipelines (though they finished the main bayonet)
before they can do their overall pressure test.

Jim: you may ask Berndt to put our priority higher than RHIC startup :-)

Good morning,

I was wondering if I could have an update of where we stand with this work?  We have a meeting with the ALD this afternoon and I am sure the discussion of the magnet testing will come up.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Paul,

By the way, please remember about those few temperature sensors that you need from the Cryo group for the strain gauge meas. ...
( I'm not sure how you're going to get them and whether they've tested them for you today. )

Hi,

Paul: Dave told me that he talked to you last week about the helper ...  Can you please call Joe Sanfilippo to set this up (for the 2 hours' helper) ?

Joe: can you please help give us a CAS for 2 hours tomorrow at 5 pm ?

Hi Kin,

Unfortunately between the PHENIX UPS problem resolution and the delayed Blue Sheet testing, my priority (getting our experiment ready for operation this week) has placed the strain gage cables in second place.

If I am given one helper (my technician is tied up also) I can accomplish clearing the Dog House from the old test cables and restore the original BaBar connections. I suggest this work be accomplished starting tomorrow after 5 PM. It should take about two hours. I believe Dave Phillips and Joe Sanfillippo can authorize a CAS watch technician for my helper.

Moving forward, I have the cable Piyush requires to get the voltage tap signals from the valve box platform down into the quench detection electronics rack. This rack still is being tested on the floor inside building 902.

Just for the record, I have been and am still willing to bring my bag of tools (and work after hours if necessary) to accomplish the shortfalls in manpower that continue to delay the SPHENIX/BaBar magnet Low Current test schedule.

Regards,

Paul

Hi,

I just came back from 912 ... The Cryo group ( I saw Thomas Tallerico and Zhang) were testing their connections ...

What's your plan for the strain gauge ?  As far as I can see, they're still not dealt with.   Do you need CAS or you have your
own technician to help you ?

You have to finish this in this week ... otherwise, our schedule won't be met again ...

Yours anxiously,

Kin
