We will continue the check out today and figure out what is what.

The vacuum gage readings were not coming in correctly to the PLC, so once we confirm whether it is analog input or PLC code we can fix it.

I will try and switch turbo, turbo A came back down and is spinning at minimum speed, so I will switch to Turbo B.

Hi,

Just try to be a little bit amusing here … I’m not like Donald Trump who may enjoy describing the present situation worse than

it may be so that he may claim he could make a lot of improvements here or there.    But I’m probably like Donald Trump who

is not too shy in pointing out what’s not working ….

The Cryo group could turn on turbo pump manual (see below) … but right now, the Cryo group has problem in opening the valves using PLC etc.  The problem is that we need Brian van Kuik to fix this but he’s also an Operation Coordinator in MCR Monday to Friday (from 11 pm to 7 am).  He’s just finished his shift and gone home to sleep (as I just talked with him --- who was at home).    Roberto is trying to get him to help to fix our PLC problem.

From what Roberto told me, we need to fix this problem and then Pat Talty can start to check out the control system and then try to cool down …

This is the present situation from what I can understand.    I’m sitting in the STAR control room and will check with Roberto from time to time.

More or less, everybody is doing something for RHIC and work on sPHENIX Magnet whenever possible.

I guess we’re doing the best that we could … and unlike Donald Trump, I or we have probably done the best that we could at any given

time and I don’t have unused magic to fix the present problem L J

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the news.  I’ve been wondering about the Turbo pump.

You mentioned “A Side Turbo”.   Is it that you still need to turn on “B Side Turbo” ?  And your earlier said that roughing

pump B has been working.   Is it that you’re waiting for the vacuum pressure to come down before you turn on the “B

side Turbo” ?!

Kin,

The A side Turbo is on and the valve box is currently down to the 10^-3 scale.  We will keep it on all weekend to lower the vacuum level further.

Also, the helium lines have been pumped and purged for operation.

Thank you,
