Hi,
The outlet temperature is ~178 K this evening for the sPHENIX Magnet, as shown in the attached graph.
I understand (or at least Roberto didn’t say it’s totally wrong) the coating or something of the pipeline (which might have reduced the heat exchange efficiency) has probably been got rid of after the warm-up and cool-down of the plant on Thursday/Friday.
Roberto told me today that the plant is performing and they’re building some inventory and switch to over to plant Monday. Cooling from 4.x K may speed up the cool-down (even though you tried 10 K on Thursday and it didn’t make a visible difference). We’ll see whether this scheme works or not ….
A thought about the schedule : Piyush will leave on Mar. 12 and come back to work in BNL on Mar. 22. So, if the cool-down speed remains constant down to ~4 K, 4 K may be reached shortly before Mar. 22. If so, our low-field test would “naturally” happen after Mar. 22.
