Hi,

 

Just a little darkness before dawn (I typically enjoy making inappropriate analogy):

 

Somehow we’ve got a misalignment about 1 inch in the horizontal direction (x-axis, when y-axis is the vertical axis pointing to the sky and

z-axis is the axial axis of magnet).  We try to make the center of the magnet also the center of steel.

you can see 3 engineers and 3 technicians were working to solve this misalignment problem.  They try to push the Jack support a bit higher

in order to shift laterally to the one side.   They’ll adjust the jack and need to make a new shim.  We bought a machine a month ago or so

in our own (C-AD) shop which could do just this.   

 

Dave Phillips has been sort of my engineering translator …  After the 1001th discussion as you can see in the picture, Dave told me that he felt more

confident that we should be able to lift the Magnet tomorrow morning.

 

Jon Hock et. al. all try to get this done this week as we may not be able to do it earlier next week (due to the July 4 holiday etc. and RHIC works).
