Hi Ed,

Roberto told me: “ The grease is supposed to be there.  We may have had the wrong grease and it outgassed vapor which froze on the expander

valve seats”.

In any case, the problem is not fixed yet but it’s just that they think they know what happened … I guess we can tell only when they  test it again.

Not sure when though …

    Hi Kin,
Thanks for the pictures. I also heard that the cryo guys believe that they
have found the problem with the cryo plant and are working  on fixing
it. I understand that they think it is grease or oil contamination from an
o-ring. Do you know anything more about this?

Hi,

I’ve attached a zip file of 3 photos here:

https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/Pictures/High%20Field%20Test/2017-11-2.zip

One of the pictures shows you that all the roof steels have been installed.  Jon Hock told me that his guys still need to do a little work before he’ll call PHENIX people to

install the magnet probes before he closes the end-walls.

In the above zip files, I include two other pictures of MCM cables and space blocks (by Frank Toldo et. al.) taken by PK Feng and he calls them

“work of art” !  ( Well, he’s got “a little” to do with it. )    Frank is preparing for connecting the MCM cables with the terminals ….

At the same time, Zeynep Altinbas and Carl Schultheiss are testing their rack on the 3rd floor of 911.  I put their test steps (from Carl) and the report (from Zeynep)

on the item of Oct.31 and Nov. 1 :   https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/Lists/Calendar/DispForm.aspx?ID=148

( If I get more report(s), I’ll continue uploading into the calendar :  https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/Lists/Calendar/calendar.aspx )

The Cryo group continues to install their pipes/connections … Richard Meier and his colleagues are making their Cryo connections.

I’m also urging Pablo Rosas to do his test(s) (of interlocks etc.) as soon as possible……

Kin
