Hi, After last Wed.'s meeting, Dave Phillips and Jim Mills started discussing the possibility of the Valvebox being hit by the crane in the next 2/3 years if we don't remove it. The likelihood of having an accident increases with time. So apparently people in sPHENIX are very worried about any damage to this critical piece of equipment and have decided to remove the Valvebox as soon as possible. [ At least, John Haggerty who last Wed. still thought he'd delay the repair/replacement until the Magnet is moved to 1008, now also agrees that we should move the Valvebox. ] And if we remove the Valvebox, we may as well open the doghouse and do the necessary repair/replacement for the voltage taps and temperature sensors !! That's, we're going to the repair/replacement now. Dave Phillips will try his best to arrange for all the works related to removing the Valvebox and so on. It won't happen very soon but he'll try to his best to arrange. This time, when the expert Ray Ceruti is opening up the doghouse, and if the Superconducting Magnet Division doesn't have a "younger" tech (who will be still around in a few years), we may find a tech from Scott Seberg's group (Dave's suggestion) and/or Ron Zapasek's group (Joe Tuozzolo's suggestion) to see how Ray and his guys do it and take notes. So that in a few years, they may know what to do in Ray's absence. Kin |
