Hi,

This afternoon, at 3:30 pm, there was a meeting in MCR in which Jon Sandberg, Carl Schultheiss, Charles Theisen, Jim Jamilkowski, Winston Perkul and I have attended.

I asked for this meeting because for a long time, Carl Schultheiss for has said  he wants to replace the National Instrument PXIe system (that we used in the High-Field Test)
as it's not fast enough to do a few things that he has wanted to do  (etc.)   ( The design/electronics has been budgeted in P6. ) I've been worrying about building something
from scratch again.

In this meeting, Carl and Winston told us that Winston is making a generic V370 board which has dual ARM processors (etc.) and seems very suitable for our purpose as it's
much faster (etc.).   We've more or less maxed out the PXIe and it's difficult to ask it to do more (which Carl always wants).   I attach a documentation here for this V370 (that
Winston sent me).   LEReC is probably the first to use it.  After we (eg. Charles and I) learnt about this, we all seemed to be persuaded as this board is almost here to be used
and the interface with the C-AD Control system will be more straightforward.  One can give any event-link input to this board etc.

The only other thing (besides customizing/testing V370) that we may need to do is to either identify or make Analog-to-Digital boards.   [ The only complication here is that Carl
hopes to have 18 bits to do his favorite dI/dt :-)    Those Analog-to-Digital used with PXIe during the High-Field Test were 16-bit. ]    Charles seemed to feel confident
and said that the technical difficulty is low.

Therefore, the unanimous consensus is to use this V370 for the future quench-protection system for the sPHENIX Magnet in 1008, instead of the PXIe system that we've used.

Kin
