As Carl Schultheiss advised, I just walked to Bldg. 912 to take a picture of the old/Magnet doghouse, which will suffer from the limited space on the “left”.

 

I attach the picture that I’ve jus taken.

 

Indeed, as Carl told me, the important voltage tap connections and resistor boards are all on the “right-handed” side --- which we have plenty of space to get access to

in case we need to ( ---- which we hope we will never need to after this summer ).

 

I guess we’re lucky as the right-handed side will have plenty of space.   So, I believe this is not a problem.   Please let me know if you have other thoughts/opinions/ideas etc.

Dear Colleagues,

From the email below,  Russ told us about the limited space to get access to the left side of the old/Magnet doghouse once it's installed inside the HCAL.
In principle, our plan has been to not ever open this old/Magnet doghouse after the voltage taps repair/spares are done.  ( By the way, the voltage tap spares have been
added.  Carl Schultheiss is going to do a hipot tomorrow and they'll test the connections again before closing it up .... )

Is this tightness/limited space raised by Russ an issue ???   Can we do everything from the the right side ??

Can you (Jim, Mike, Carl, Roberto, Dave,  Paul Orfin, Paul Kovach, Ray Ceruti ...) please comment ??

Kin,

Today at an engineering meeting about how to install and support the Babar magnet on the oHCAL inner diameter we noticed a potential access issue to one of the cryostat doghouse access panels.  Take a look at the image below and the attached slides.

Looking in at the cryostate doghouse there is about 4.5" of clearance on the left side.  This access panel is 28.5" tall and 10" of the panel is above this pinch point.  There is plenty of room to approach and access the right-hand access panel.

This tight spot could be a problem if this left-hand panel needs to be removed for some reason down the road to repair something inside the box.  Our options to create more room are very limited because all of the oHCAL sectors have been ordered and fabricated.

Can you take a look at this with your team and let us know if we need to provide more access on the left side?  Can maintenance be done from the right side only? Is there reason to think that we will need to open this doghouse at some time during operations for repairs and we will need to access the left-hand panel?
