Dear Ray,
When will you have time to come to Bldg. 912 to close out the old doghouse, and clean up/wrap the new doghouse (with plastic bag) --- without the two doors ?
As soon as possible, I hope ?? Tom Tallerico et. al. have finished checking what they need to check.
The plan and steps are the following :
- Close out the old doghouse --- the one connected with the Magnet Coil (and hopefully we will never need to open it again)
- For the new doghouse (the one underneath the Valvebox), you may see the present situation left by Carl et. al. Carl said that you’d help clean it up. Since we need to have the
chimney etc. to connect everything with in a couple years, you can’t really do too much. But can you please carefully/nicely wrap those cables/wires and cover the new doghouse
with plastic bag ? As the email below, Dave asks us not to cover with the new doghouse with doors to reduce weight for the next step.
- After you finish with the two doghouses, Dave would ask riggers to move the entire Cryostat with the extension out of the present (return yoke) steel box to the
original (BaBar) yellow-frame. [ Dave would like to do this before the end of RHIC run (~July 15) and so it’d be great if you can finish closing up the doghouses soon. ] - At that time, we’ll ask you again to help put on the new support brace (made by Paul Kovach) and close the doors for the new doghouse , and you can cover the top of the new doghouse
with the cap/flange that you’ve made. - Afterwards, we can flush the system with dry nitrogen and it’ll be stored like that for a couple years.

Kin,
My understanding is that Paul’s transport support for the valvebox extension can’t be installed until after the cryostat is lifted from the return steel to the yellow transport frame.
So it may be better not to close the “new” doghouse to reduce the weight on the extension until after the cryostat has been moved to the transport frame.

Hi Tom Tallerico,
As you can see below, Carl & Fred & Joe D’ambra have finished with the voltage taps. ( Thanks to all of them ! )
Please proceed as we have discussed to check on the C-connectors next Monday (by R. Meier). When you finish
checking, please let us know so that we can ask Ray Ceruti to close the doghouses.
Kin
Hi,
Joe Dambra and I have finished this
stage of testing of the sPhenix Magnet
Voltage Taps. The magnet hi-potted
to 520 V, and all the taps are present.
Ray can finish closing the old dog-house
and whatever is planned for the new
dog-house. When the old dog-house is
completely closed, and all the work
on the new dog-house is complete,
I think another round of testing should
be done to insure everything is OK before
we put the magnet away for its long sleep.
I think we should buy some test equipment
so we can do this sort of testing on our own.
