Hi,
Thanks a lot, Ray.
I chatted with Ray just now and somehow he had some left-over screws, just enough for the 3 heat shield restraints.
Dave Phillips has made an “internal” work order to make those bars and so hopefully our techs (in Rob Karl’s group)
will make them next week.

Hi Kin,
Today we tightened the eight lower magnet control bars to the recommended setting and installed the back three heat shield restraints. I’ll order the necessary screws to attach the three front heat shield
restraints and will complete the containment once the Unistrut bars are available.
Regards,
Ray
So the conclusion is that we need those heat shield restraints. After a couple trials, I found Mike Lenz in his office in Bldg. 510. He helped me load the restraints plus the 6 bars into my car.
Now, I am waiting at 912 for Ray Ceruti who said that he would show up at any minute now.
For the new one, we have those 3 pairs of simple bars (i.e. 6 in total, made by Mike) but for the old ones, we don't
😑. I will talk with Ray about this ...

Kin,
Tightening the tie rods secures the coil not the heat shield. I have asked Ray to implement both.
Mike
Hello Mike,
There may be a language / terminology problem of mine.
Ray Ceruti just typed :
> We are going down this morning to tighten the heat shield restraint adjustments (3 turns) as well as the axial adjustment (3 ¼ turns) just like what was done to move the solenoid into its current position.
The separate Heat shield end restraints were not used at that time, they were only in place for the original shipment to BNL.
When you guys talked about “heat shield restraint, I immediately thought about the 3 that we lost and then asked Mike Lenz made, as the picture attached. ( Now we have 6 in total. )
From Ray’s message, without those external restraints (in the picture), Ray can rotate to tighten the heat shield restraint. This is certainly fine with me/us.
But Ray implied that we don’t need those 6 “external” heat shield restraints now. They’re needed only when we do the shipment from 912 to 1008 ??
Am I right ???
Yours “confusingly”,
Kin

Dearest Kin,
I believe I have said several times already that we recommend implementing all restraints to magnet and valve box in advance of any rigging. For the magnet this includes heat shield restraints and coil tie
rods.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
Warm Regards,
Mike

Dear Mike,
Can you please let us know as soon as possible whether that “heat shield restraint” is needed at all for just
moving the Magnet from the Steel Box to the floor in 912 ??
Kin
Dear Mike,
Dave Phillips (who have come back) and I were just discussing about asking Ray Ceruti to do the restraint adjustment (~3 turns)
as described in your traveller :
https://collab.external.bnl.gov/sites/sPHENIX-Magnet/Shared%20Documents/2019-9-26%20SMD%20Traveller%20for%20restraint%20adjustment.pdf
Because we're close to asking the riggers move the Magnet out of the Steel box (in Bldg. 912) to the floor of Bldg. 912, a few meters away.
But Dave asked me whether we need to apply the "Heat Shield Restraints" (as shown below on the left of your picture below). I told him
that we have to check with Mike :-)
Can you please let us know whether we need to install the heat shield restraints just to move the Magnet out of the Steel box to the floor ?
Kin

Hi,
Well, that's one of them. The other one is the risk in transporting it from 912 to 1008 if we drop it ! :-)
I asked Irina to add it and she added it after asking about the worst scenario (which is not used in her simulation) and the cost to replace the magnet etc.
I mentioned it in a L2 Manager meeting :

Hi,
There is the close-out document in the Director's Review page :
https://indico.bnl.gov/event/5961/attachments/22264/30966/DOE_CD1-3A_1805_sPHENIX_Closeout_Rpt.pdf
which doesn't mention much about the Magnet. If you don't remember anything, it's probably not much ...
I only remember that they complained about us not acknowledging the very unlikely but significant risks.

Hello,
I believe that you received the email below asking you to practice your talk tomorrow (Oct. 2, 2019 !!).
Just in case you couldn’t find your talk in April’s Director’s Review, you may find it here :

Subject: Practice this week Oct 2-3, for the sPHENIX I&F review
Hi all,
We will hold a practice this week, Wednesday and Thurs Oct 2-3
for the sPHENIX Infrastructure and Facility Upgrade review
which will be held at BNL Oct 16-17.
The Indico link for the practice is:
https://indico.bnl.gov/event/6879/
The practice will be in room 2-219 of the BNL Physics Building.
Please use the attached talk template for your presentations.
The talk organization is very similar to that used in the April
Director's review. If appropriate one can have multiple
Technical Overview, Scope and Status & Highlights slides in
your talks. The ES&H and QA talks should be very similar to
those from the April review.
The Bluejeans connection will be:
Meeting ID:991617325
Meeting URL:https://bluejeans.com/991617325
To join via phone :
1) Dial: +1.408.740.7256
+1.888.240.2560
+1.408.317.9253 (see all numbers -

We would like to practice all of the talks Oct 2 &3 but realize that we will
have to be flexible with the talk schedule. Let us know if the time shown
on the Indico schedule has to change. Please let me know if you have
any questions. Thanks.
