sPHENIX discussion of the superconducting solenoid

Hi,

 

Today at 3:30 pm, we had a meeting about the Magnet Valvebox installation.   People attended  include Mariana Albanese, Paul Orfin, Roberto Than, Jon Hock, Chris Runyan and Kin Yip.

 

One thing that I’ve learnt or become clear is:

The end-caps need to be installed before the platform/deck can be installed.   Only then  can we install the Magnet Valvebox.

 

Below is the Minutes for today’s meeting about Valvebox installation --- written by R. Than and M. Albanese.

• Platform is expected to be completed by May 30.
• Pole tips need to be assembled in order for the platform to be completed.
• MOUNTS

• Installation mounts for the solenoid valvebox is with John Hock.
• Mounts were engineered to use the slotted holes support brackets on the solenoid valvebox.
• Installation of mounts can be by CAD techs: Rob Karl’s group or Carpenters
• SURVEY: Determine mount location by having survey group mark the mount location on platform relative to doghouse top flange

SCAFFOLD

• Scaffold required for installation work in Assembly Hall in order to reach the other side of doghouse for piping work.
• Marianna will generate request for scaffold assembly
• Requires approx. elevation from either Paul / John

SOLENOID VALVEBOX CONNECTIONS

• Chris will meet with Ray/Paul K. to generate installation activities list; See old procedure and traveler used for 912 high power test
• Activities list should contain major interface tasks:

• Scaffold work {CAD facilities support}
• Install work {Rigging}
• SC Bus splice joints
• electrical connections
• Splice Joints Temperature sensor install {Cryo group}
• Piping joints work
• mass spec leak check  [Vacuum group, Cryogroup}
• pressure test {Cryogroup}
• electrical check out {Carl Schultheiss.]

3-D Model and reference

• Rich Ruggiero can be contacted to get the sPHENIX Autodesk inventor model to see the solenoid & valvebox in the detector
• Paul Kovach has the Creo model of the magnet and solenoid valvebox
• There is a video log of the installation work done for the high power test in bldg. 912
