Hi,

Paul Orfin's email contains pictures for the IP8 coldbox (built by AET).

Ed,

Attached are the pictures from AET we got at yesterday’s meeting.  We request pictures on a regular basis during the fabrication stages as indicated in our SOW.  This helps us minimize travel cost and still get trustworthy progress updates.

AET is looking to accelerate their schedule on the balance of the lines.  We only need 3 of those lines to come in before the IR roll in set for 8/8/22, one of which is already completed.  The remaining 3 lines can only be installed after the platform is in the IR since they connect with the west wall deck piping.  We can send a representative but AET know the needs and importance of meeting these last dates.  They did work diligently to complete the IP8 valve box despite the delays and timely ordering of parts.  Sadly they were, as we all are, victims of supply chain issues with vendors.  We too suffer those items internally and worked to get replacement parts several times now due to vendors not delivering items in the schedules they provided.

I believe I addressed all you questions.  If there is something, I missed please let me know.

Thank you,

Paul Orfin

    Hi Paul,
OK. Do you have a recent photo of the cold box at Ability?
Right now I show the 3-D model, similar to the figure below,
in my regular presentations to DOE and BNL Management.
Having an up to date photo from AET would help support my
statements that the cold box exists and is really ready to ship.

By the way I also understand that some of the cryo lines being
made by Ability, presumably the ones numbered in green on
your figure, are not coming until early July. If so is it worth
planning a trip of a BNL rep to  AET to put additional pressure
on them to give the cryo lines the priority that we need?

About the overall sPHENIX installation schedule, if all goes as
planned the IHCal goes in today. We will immediately begin prepping
for the south pole tip doors to go in. That will be followed by the
building of a scaffold on the south side of sPHENIX in preparation
for the installation of the valve box. The latest report that I have is that
the south pole tip doors are ready to install so we can begin that process
next week after the large IHCal slider beam is removed.

Please send a cold box photo if you have one, or ask AET to send us one.
    Thanks.

Ed,

We are still waiting for a 3-way valve for the pressure relief system to come in to finalize the last weld on the valve box.  There is a daily meeting to review the status of this part with the valve box vendor as well as the valve vendor.  I just got out of a meeting with the valve vendor.  AET will get the valve on Thursday.  AET can do their final work and ship the valve box out on Tuesday for arrival at BNL on Thursday, 6/16/22.

As a reminder, the IP8 valve box, although important, does not offer a lot of work for cryogenic mechanical to connect to it.  All the connections to that item are premade pipe sections with bayonets.  The major item Cryogenics needs is the solenoid valve box.  That represents the starting point for the majority of the pipes we need to weld in place.  The electrical team can leverage the time with the IP8 valve box to wire items but it should not be a gating item until the solenoid valve box is in place.  I can explain further but from the image below you can see the 5 numbers in red marking lines requiring welding and connection to the solenoid valve box.  The 8 numbers in green are all bayonet specifically made for quick connection with a flange and no welding.  The red numbers represent the majority of our work on the platform.  Green numbers 4,5, 6, 7, & 8 can only be done in the IR since they go to the west wall deck.

Thank you,

Paul Orfin

     Hi Kin, Roberto, and Paul,

What is the projected delivery date of the cold box from

     Ability? Thanks.
