sPHENIX discussion of the superconducting solenoid

There was a meeting this morning that discussed about our schedule for the Magnet Mapping including the cool-down.  Attendees include : Ed O’Brien, Russ Feder, Jim Mills,

Paul Orfin, Roberto Than, Frank Toldo and Kin Yip.

 

--- As the powerpoint attached, before we can have helium into the Magnet or Magnet mapping, we need to have the USI approval,

the completion of ODH sensors by the Access Control Group (by Aug. 26-30), the roll-in of the entire carriage into the IR etc.

 

--- Paul Orfin and Roberto Than informed us that the 45 K wave (and followed by 4K ) in RHIC (without going to our Magnet system) would take 3.5 weeks

and then the Magnet may need another week or so for the cool-down.  Once we started 45K Helium , people will need to be allocated manpower to maintain

the cooling, which implies a reduction in manpower for doing the Cryo piping works.     And there is a small but constant He leak in RHIC and we are

guaranteed only one more shipment of He.

 

--- Since the platform was available for people to do the piping works last week and plus all these factors, we decided to push the original date of Aug. 8

for starting 45K He wave in RHIC on Aug. 8 to Aug. 15.

 

--- I explained that the pole-tip interrupt system was mostly ready except the final connection with the pole-tip when it’s in the IR.  Ed O’Brien asked us whether there are other

signals in sPHENIX control rook.  Roberto and I explained that all signals sent to the Control Room were for monitoring in the Control Room but we (or the Magnet control systems)

are not depending on it.

 

--- Paul enthusiastically reminded us that other groups also need to finish their works for the Magnet Mapping, including the roll-in, water-cooled-busses,

works for installing the CERN mapper, not just the Cryo group 😊   Russ Feder is making up an item list.
