Hi Pablo,

I was just sitting together with PK Feng, Dennis Donaldson and Robert Hoogsteden discussing this matter of reversing phases for 1008C.  The conclusion is to do what Dennis had earlier told the line crew to do for 1008C.

  • There is a chance that the phases for the Magnet Power Supply was also wrong.  But that’s an easy swap (phase reversal) as it’s NOT related to anything else, but just the Magnet Power Supply.  Pablo will find out when Pablo switches

on 😊   Our Magnet Power Supply is subject to polarities.

Interestingly, the computers and racks in 1008B mezzanine are using the power from the 1008A substation (in the 1008 parking lot); whereas the Magnet Power Supply in 1008B mezzanine (just next to the computer) and pump room in 1008C are

using the power from the substation 1008B.   So, even when they’re shutting down and reversing stuff for 1008B, I don’t need to worry about the power for the computers (which are running !) in the 1008B mezzanine 😊 as they used

power from a different substation (1008A).  Quite confusing …

But an hour ago, when I first told PK what the plan was --- somehow I talked to PK more than anybody else in BNL, PK was “yelling” (OK, I exaggerated !) that it’s “impossible” as he remembered nothing was done since

2016 (when PHENIX was shut down) to reverse the phases.  They (PK/Dennis/Bob) temporarily halted the plan for the reversal.  PK was talking with Marty (line crew ?) …

After nearly a long and very civilized discussion, they finally found a cause for a plausible  upstream change  that might have affected 1008C (and possibly the power for the Power Supply).   Nobody had noticed anything because we had not used

1008C and the Magnet Power Supply.   They’ll check on that upstream change (in near future)  but  since we want chilling water etc. now, they decided that it’s easier to reverse phase for 1008C as they originally planned (by Dennis).  Marty got

the message … ( My role there, in addition to curiosity, was partially to prevent a long academic study … but to have power for the customer --- 1008C pump room. )

Just a “journalist” reporting …

    Hi Kin,
     OK, thanks.

Hi,

No. Because this is a substation and transformer for 1008B and C,  a different substation of  1008-IR and 1008A .

But PK Feng has doubt about the reverse ...which is under discussion.

    Hi Kin,
Will there be a brief power interrupt when the phase is reversed?
If so will that affect anything in 1008, like PASS? Thanks.

Pablo,

Larry just talked with me and the line crew will go to the sub-station after lunch to reverse the phases for 1008C so that

1008C may circulate water to our Power Supply/Water-cooled-bus 😊

( One sometimes feels that everything can go wrong has gone wrong 😅

Staying positive 😊

The whole feed from the sub-yard has reversed phases,  this has to be addressed today.

Hi Larry,

You got problem in circulating water from 1008C on Wed. ?
