All, (cc'ing the DAQ list b/c of mutual interest/awareness, sorry that some of you get this twice)

As we discussed briefly in Thursday's MVTX meeting, I hooked up the current MVTX-dedicated GL1/GTM to the FELIX in EBDC11.

Please refer to our Oct 26 discussion about the fiber distribution from the GL1/GTMs: https://indico.bnl.gov/event/17586/

To document today's work, I made a derivative document and (rather than spamming two lists with MBs of pictures) uploaded it to that same meeting in indico:

https://indico.bnl.gov/event/17586/attachments/44026/76602/MVTX_GTM_hookup.pdf

The TL;DR is:

- the MVTX GTM minipod is hooked up to the FELIX, as is the busy return
- the physical "fibering" is made exactly as we agreed on in October with the 2x12 MPO -> 24 LC breakout cassette
- Jo, Joe, Yasser and I can now take it from there. It is unlikely to come alive just on the first try. But all hardware is in place.

Have fun, and a good weekend!

Martin

Dear all,

as I advertised at the coll. meeting, several detector systems can set up their own GL1/GTM unit during the commissioning phase.

In order to decouple the digitizer operations (that currently require a good amount of rebooting and re-configuring) from you guys, I rigged up a 2nd unit in the rack next to ebdc11. I used the spare 2nd ethernet port on ebcd11 to hook it up as mvtxgtm (aka 192.168.60.125) so once RunControl is running on the box it can get to it. (We don't want the units to be seen on the DAQ network for now).

I'm running out of time today; eventually we can join the existing daq01-connected 192.168.60.x network where the other units live with this one (IPs already set accordingly) and gain a gateway and DNS. And the unit still needs to see a bit of TLC with firmware versions and so on.

No fibers are connected yet and nothing has changed with any of your fibers yet; I'll coordinate with Jo and Yasser. But when we are done, each group can do their own thing without interference from the other.

Best,
    Martin
