Grazyna and all,

We are going to discuss this at tomorrow’s sPHENIX operation meeting, 2:30PM/ET.

See the following email from Kin,

https://indico.bnl.gov/event/22878/

This Friday, we will discuss about Ming Liu/MVTX group’s  idea of “Compact MVTX beam background monitors”.

If you have something in addition that you’d like to report/discuss, please fill in the google docs below:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/10GjawBKus9eraTQCd6pxvyE2zyqFebGevP8-NcaY1zw/edit .

Cheers,

Ming

Dear Grazyna,

yes we plan left, right, top and bottom.

what we understood it would require months of approvals to get close to BP or inside the magnet, so for now we want to put it as closest as possible they will allow us.

We could assemble both north and south, but we are not sure where to put the readout (putting anything on sPHENIX racks might be moths of approvals again), so for the south side, we were actually thinking to route it to the chiller platforms. However, there is no such thing on north side?

Unfortunately, if we want to be on the level of L0 we would need to be inside the solenoid.

So we will see tomorrow after the sPHENIX discussion where they will allow us to put it.

Cameron, showed us the main sPHENIX beam monitors (if those are the one you speak about) and they are like 1? meter (they were hugging the RHIC dipole) away from the center of the BP?

Best regards

Jakub

Hi Ming and All,

Slides are very informative. 8 of them, 4 on blue BP and 4 on yellow,
right ? So, left, right, up and down (in respect to the BP) on both sides ?

Can we get closer to the BP, for example at ~ L0 distance ? Slide 5
shows 2 inches. It may be less background there than the L0 would get.

I assume that background may deteriorate radially. Or perhaps one can
plan to be as close as possible to the BP?.

I was thinking that perhaps it would be good to have 2 on the L0 level
and two 'on as close as possible' level. 2 inches may be far away from
the "problem".

This way we will be able to help CA-D and also know what the MVTX is
getting.

BTW: at what distance from the BP are the  CA-D monitoring devices?

My 3 cents ...

Grazyna
