Joint Heavy Flavor & Quarkonium Topical Group Meeting (2022/5/18)
Introduction
We are happy to welcome Cameron Dean as the incoming HF TG
co-convenor. Hideki will step down.
Vertex performance in MDC2 - Sanghoon Lim
p.2
Tony: There are 2 tracking modes in the Simple Vertex Finder:
(1) triggered mode (uses z match instead of crossing),
(2) pp mode (reconstruct all tracks in a crossing; not default)
Sanghoon's plots are with the triggered mode and look as
expected. The pp mode did not work well when CA seeder > 2us,
but it may be fixed now.
Wei: Do these include secondary vertices?
Tony: S.V.F. is not designed for secondary vertices, but we may
still see them if within a couple of microns of displacement.
p.4,5
Tony: Did you apply zero crossing cut here?
Sanghoon: Yes
p.5
Jin: The MDC2 inclusive jet samples have a truth filter with jet pT,
so please apply pT> 30 GeV to avoid the biased kinematic region.
Tony: What do secondary vertices in RAVE do?
Sanghoon: I used the multi-vertex mode in RAVE, but don't know
the exact condition.
Hideki: For the truth jet flavor, there are two categorizations: the
parton flavor and hadron flavor. We should consider the hadron
flavor, which is the standard in CMS and ATLAS.
Sanghoon: It takes to time to access truth information.
Tony: Where do you get the truth jet info?
Sanghoon: From the truth DST.
Tony: Ok, let's discuss offline.
Wei: What is the strategy for the pileup?
Tony: We will reconstruct all tracks/crossings within 7 us. The track
efficiency is pretty independent of the crossing.
D/Dbar separation & D+/Ds+ reconstruction - Thomas Marshall
Jin: Thanks for the cool results in time for the Computing Review.
p.8
Jin: Do you filter out non-phi?
Thomas: Right
Jin: OK, in such a case, we will loose ~70% of the signals (w/o phi).
Wei: How about you focus on training BDT for the phi decays first,
and then look for D+, Ds+ later.
Cameron: I've seen some people doing similar things. I will re-read
some notes and check whether there are issues with that approach.
EvtGen implementation (verbal updates) - Zhaozhong Shi
The latest EvtGen compiled fine, but it is not forcing events to decay
properly. Should have some updates at the next meeting.
