Hi Zhaozhong, Cameron and Marzia

Thanks, Zhaozhong. I believe our intention on the Upsilon 3S is consistent. We may not see it if it is naturally supposed in AuAu collisions. Therefore, if we state "Goal to observe Υ(3𝑆)." , we may not reach the goal, if the physical RAA is small. However my suggestion of "Cleanly separate Υ(3𝑆) state" is aimed to be a detector technical specification which can be true as long as the mass resolution is good enough

Cheers

Jin

Dear Jin,

I took all suggestions but the one below:

“Goal to observe Υ(3𝑆) state” -> Cleanly separate Υ(3𝑆) state

In my rehearsal, Cameron and Marzia pointed out that we might need to be more realistic about the Υ(3𝑆) statement. So we decided to change it from potential observation Υ(3𝑆) -> Goal to observe Υ(3𝑆). We can discuss more about that. I updated everything in my sides except for this one. The new draft is here below:

Dear Zhaozhong

Thanks for updating the slides. Please find further suggestions on the current version below:

  • Slide 2
  • First hadronic calorimeter -> First barrel hadronic calorimeter
  • “shorter and shorter length scales” -> Various length scales
Slide 4: Please remember to swap to the final approved version before your talk Slide 8:
  • “High precision D-meson” -> High precision D-meson measurements
  • “dataset size” -> large minimal bias pp and Au+Au datasets
Slide 11:
  • “Fully reconstructed charm hadron” -> High statistics charm and bottom hadron measurements
  • “Goal to observe Υ(3𝑆) state” -> Cleanly separate Υ(3𝑆) state

Cheers

Jin

Hi Zhaozhong,

Thanks for your slides, they’re looking good. I have some comments and suggestions:

In general, you likely have too many slides for a 12+3 talk. My general thought it 1 minute per slide but slide 2 is your general overview of sPHENIX so you’ll likely spend 3 minutes on that slide alone discussing the detectors, run plans, DAQ etc. With 16 slides, you may end up rushing over the physics slides which should be the focus of the talk. My thoughts would be to trim out slide 4 (as you’ll probably say this in the overview slide). I would combine slides 5 and 6, and (sorry calorimeters and jet enthusiasts) I would cut slides 8 and 9. This would get you 12 slides and allow you to really drive home the physics for us.

Slide 2: I would change the phrasing of 2015 NSAC Long Range Plan. The conference is in Europe so there’s likely a large portion of the audience who don’t understand what it means. You could say something like “Highest priority of US long term science agenda” or “DOE flagship HI experiment” or something like that.

Also on this slide, your last bullet point should be rephrased as we sadly ended run 23. You could say first collisions have ended and we’re currently commissioning. I’m sure there are people in the audience that know RHIC has stopped for the year. You mention in your summary slide that the run is ongoing as well.

Slide 5: You should swap the plots with the approved preliminary ones from Invenio, https://sphenix-invenio.sdcc.bnl.gov/communities/sphenixcommunity/requests/d35b771c-775e-43b2-99a0-04bbe3ac17e6

Slide 6: I would be careful or even remove the last point. We won’t have collision data with the full of sPHENIX until next year.

Slide 7: The event display is good and we’ll replace it with the approved version. Just a note in case of questions, the point in the MVTX that is not part of the cosmic track is a noisy pixel.

Slide 9: If you keep this, I’ve seen people in the audience before ask what the conversion of ADC to GeV is (it should be pretty obvious by using the PDG mass of the pi0), maybe ask an EMCal expert about the value

Slide 20: I would remove this, I don’t think we can resolve the cluster sizes by Friday in the cosmic runs.

I’ll be in BNL tomorrow and can come by 1008 if you want to talk about anything.

Cheers,

Cameron

Dear sPHENIX Heavy Flavor Topical Group Conveners,

I have produced a draft for my ISMD 2023 talk scheduled at 10:30 am EDT on Thursday 08/24.

I included an MVTX+INTT+TPOT event display, which is not yet approved but will become preliminary by the end of this week.

My talk will be 12 (talks) + 3 (discussion) minutes. Can you have a look at my slides? Any feedback or suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Zhaozhong Shi
