Minutes shift change 2023-05-18
general
—————
First look at collisions last night with MBD on minimum bias trigger
- beam not re-bucketed: wide time distribution
- large time distribution offset: large fraction of junk triggers?
- there seem to be issues with beam clock—>investigating
- will try the same again tonight
new beam-call list (linked from run web page)
- please enter your requests to be called
Remote work
- apparent issue with remote GTM use last night
- we are in operations mode: any subsystem work should be done in control room or after prior authorization by shift leader (single point of contact)
Plan
- rebucketing during day (no collisions for us)
- overnight: stores for STAR
- will try to time in MBD again tonight
- if all goes well, from tomorrow morning: collisions for sPHENIX commissioning 24/7
- if MBD timed in, next will be calorimeter timing in and data taking, analysis (Friday, weekend)
- in addition to trigger, DAQ, and MBD experts, will need calorimeter experts
approval
DAQ (Martin)
ZDC (Peter)
- indication will get approval today or tomorrow, probably tomorrow
- if that happens will start magnet cool down (cryo group)
- one valve on berm, fenced, coordinate with nitrogen
- start gas
- need access to adjust nitrogen flow meter
—> needs coordination
first controlled access
- lost sweep
when remove equipment: call Health Physicist
evening (Sasha)
- quiet shift
- no access, injecting losing
- no alarms
night (Brett)
- exciting shift
- first look at collision
- had to re-launch DO GUIs
- Valery started
Day (Ben)
- continued on some of issues with GUIs
- contacted experts
- dumped beam around 8:00am
- access 1:00pm
- lost sweep
- just finished sweep
MBD (Mickey)
- later on it seemed clock was getting unstable
HCAL (Oliver)
- shared slide
- increased bias current in iHCal, not oHCal, potential radiation damage
EMCal (Sean)
- one problem with one interface board: LV leg out
- one problem with one interface board: LV leg out
- power cycling, if not access tomorrow
TPOT (Hugo)
TPOT (Hugo)
- DAQ issues, event builder was in funny state, probably due to GTM instability, had to reboot multiple times
- once TPOT: need commissioning time without collisions
TPC (Takao)
- last night continued number of samples to read out: achieved 256 samples, 50 Hz logging rate
- number of links to FEEs reduced over time (maybe single event accept issue)
INTT (Raul, Itaru)
- getting ready for big partition
- needs Martin
- waiting for nitrogen
MVTX (Cameron)
- nothing major on hardware
- couple of tasks once we have access, but waiting for gas and waiting for part
- monitoring: in touch with shift crew, working
- need time for development without beam
- schedule
- when is a good time to turn on whole detector
sEPD (Rosi)
- installation meeting today
- target goal: July 14 (around maintenance day)
- Gunther: how much lead time needed?
- couldn’t do much earlier (availability of parts and labor)
- it’s not all going to go in at the same time (disks can go in earlier)
DAQ (Martin)
- set up DAQ Operator station
- should run DAQ from that computer only when GTM in global mode
- when done: don’t let RC hang around: get out of it and terminate it
Trigger (Dan)
- last night MBD trigger triggered on NS coincidence
- this was Lemo cable 3 tubes each
- goal is to time in trigger more appropriately
- add LL1 to big partition tonight: debug vertex issues better
- goal is to switch to fiber input as soon as possible
ZDC (Peter)
- taking data after 2:00am with John’s scope
- wrong mode: not enough data
- no single neutron peak yet
- try to do the same with more data tonight
