Also, input from Kin on magnet, how long to leave on for now (see TPC update below)

  • Assess information from analysis of MVTX with single beam tests etc., and then follow up  with meeting with machine people

  • MBD performance update → coordinate with  Commissioning Task Force

Priority items for this week:   GL1/GTM firmware update, GL1 readout, RevTick implementation, DAQ monitor, further checks on ADC/XMIT issues

  • DAQ /  Electronics testing /  development
What is the plan for the next couple of days?

================================================================

Evening (Derek Anderson, Sijan Regmi, Justin Bryan)

  • Fill 33904 (111x111, 2 mrad, 8 kHz ZDC)

  • Dumped just after 6 pm

  • Heat alarm from 1004b-HB prevented MCR from injecting for ~30 minutes

Fill 33905 (111x111, 2 mrad, 10 kHz ZDC)

  • Physics just after 8 pm

  • Did global runs with GTM (MBD+LL1+HCAL+EMCAL+ZDC) rest of evening

Around 9:50 pm, GTM ended up in a weird state

  • Seb16 wouldn’t open an output file, and rc_status display it as being not enabled/not active after run ended

  • Went through the “setup rc server” instructions and attempted to start a new run several times before contacting John H.

  • Jaebom eventually reconfigured GTM and we ran without issue rest of the evening.

Night (John Lajoie and Justin Frantz)

  • (03:40AM) Run 15077 broke the magical seb02 1M event limit - 1.7M events

  • (04:10AM) Beam dumped

  • (04:41AM) New store 33906, 111x111 @ 2mrad, 10kHz initial ZDC

  • (07:59AM) 12 good runs, 9.94M events

Day (Charles Hughes & Alex Holt & Pedro Nieto)

  • (8:00 AM) inherited store 33906

  • Inherited Issue with TPC/TPOT LV Crate 3A4-2

(8:30 AM) Water leak detected above labyrinth entrance - cable 4

  • (8:55 AM) Additional leak detected on Chiller platform A, cable 6

  • High bay door was opened in morning - condensing around chiller pipes - dripping onto floor, setting off sensors

  • Frank Toldo shut off Chiller 2 (unused) in hopes it would warm up

  • Shifters may have to tolerate alarms coming and going for this

(10:00 AM) Meeting for Access - Access will be 1 PM - 5 PM

(10:30 AM) DAQ experts took over for DAQ development

(12:45 PM) - Planned beam dump for 1 PM access

(12:55 PM) - Plug door open - Restricted Access Started

  • (1:20 PM) Steve Boose + Takao swapped board in 3A4-2

  • (1:30 PM) Board replaced in 2W1 for INTT

  • (1:50 PM) TPC removed diffuse laser parts (passed activation check)

  • (1:50 PM) HCAL and EMCAL work done

  • (2:21 PM) TPC HV ramping up for opportunistic “MAGNET ON” condition

  • (2:25 PM) MVTX turning on staves

  • (03:00 PM) - Crash button (PASS system) accidentally pulled in IR

  • Requires us to call MCR, rest crash, call back - then its cleared

  • (3:15 PM) Techs need LOTO for mezzanine to repair air handlers

(3:30 PM) - Census of Current Activities:

  • Air handler work

  • MVTX Testing (Staves ON)

  • INTT work (trying to run standalone GTM + fix rack communication issue)

  • TPC GEM HV Conditioning

  • DAQ Development

================================================================

Magnet (Kin)

Nothing new to report

MBD (Mickey, Lameck, Alex)

  • No Updates

Trigger (Dan)

  • Will need to program ADC boards in the rest of HCAL 2W2 today after SCM before data-taking returns.

  • Cosmic Calo Trigger work to be focus of this week. Need help from Columbia / HCAL group to integrate emulator into Cosmic simulation.

  • Added new test-crate from 510 to the highbay. To be used as calorimeter trigger teststand.

GTM/GL1 (Martin/Dan/John K)

  • Slowdown in the GTM responsiveness found to be a changed nameserver setting… unknown why
New GTM software (not firmware) version to deal with a new register that we think is useful.  https://sphenix-intra.sdcc.bnl.gov/WWW/elog/DAQ/188

DAQ (Martin/John H)

 MVTX ()

  • During the access, we checked the cable connections in 2E1. No obvious loose connection was found

TPC (Tom, Jin, Takao, Evgeny, Charles, Thomas M., Aditya)

  • Today’s 06.26 Access

  • Bob Azmoun removed diffuse laser heads

  • Steve Boose + Takao Sakaguchi removed bad 3A4-2 module

  • TPC HV GEM Conditioning - Opportunistic

  • Can TPC get 30 mins local mode for HV conditioning data taking before access is up?

Analysis on-going for the Friday first field-on, HV-on, collision-on data

  • We have some gain on GEM though the question is quantitatively how much gain per GEM module, which likely needs more reconstruction work (e.g. offline event building + clustering + preferably tracking).

  • Quick surrogate is channel-level waveform fitting which captures part of the charge and no background rejection. Plot from Evgeny suggesting gain is likely still low and a x3 increase of gain is probably needed in the next HV scan (under TPC group discussion):

  • Plans for Future “NO MAGNET” Runs

  • None so far

  • We think “near term” future GEM conditioning can be be done with field on

  • Longer term, we want to complete diffuse laser calibrations with field off

  • This depends on when the diffuse laser timing is fixed/understood better

Plans for Future Collisions

  • Depends on current gain analysis with data we already have

  • Want to understand gain a bit better before planning more collision data taking

  • Next planned collisions are ok to be field on

HCal (Virginia)

  • Bias problem for OHCal sector 13 fixed

  • Switched out bad preamp board

ADC problem fixed- packet 8002 should be back in next data

EMCal ()

  • Tim went in during the access with Steve and Sal to investigate the cause of observed pedestal noise. They did not find any obvious grounding or voltage potential issues. Took several runs under various conditions to try to diagnose the problem. Will re-visit during next access.

  • Looking at data runs taken over weekend

  • Seen evidence of desynchronization between emcal and MBD (DAQ/trigger team is aware and working on it!)

TPOT (Hugo)

  • Nothing to report on the detector side

  • Would like to request some time in local mode for TPOT (parasitic) to test on-fly baseline restoration in SAMPA with Takao (ideally tomorrow morning) and (re)do a HV scan with Magnet ON.

  • Would like to spend some time with experts (ideally tomorrow too, or some other time during the week) to re-include TPOT in the big partition, run in global mode and test, with new DAQ scripts and instructions

  • For fun: cluster multiplicity in TPOT detectors. Looks pretty much like centrality distribution. Next, to try correlate that with MBD charge.

INTT (Rachid, Maya, Raul, and Jaein)

  • INTT detector is running properly

  • Today during the access, we replaced the temperature patch panel south side (working properly)

  • Readout:

  • Right now, to avoid conflict with other sPHENIX subsystems development, we are using spare GTM and the inttdaq at the rack room. We are working on:

  • developing a Felix firmware to improve clock ROCs synchronization

Request: after updating Felix's firmware, we would like to take data with beam:

  • To investigate intt “empty events”, we think there is a conflict between calibration mode and trigger mode (communication between ROCs and Felix). We are turning OFF calibration at Felix Firmware and see if the empty events go away.

sEPD(Rosi)

  • SiPM box parts delivered

  • Aiming for July 5th South side disk install

Gas/Cooling ()

ZDC ()

  • Nothing new since yesterday to report on the data analysis side
