RHIC (see attached slides)
- higher losses during ramp and transition since 6/23
 - leading to beam aborts (by now we’ve had three or so)
- situation is degrading
- investigating
- might be equipment damage
- no concern for our detectors

- yesterday’s 12x12 test with bump to eliminate STAR backgrounds
- bump eliminated asymmetric background
- this apparently shows background is caused by Au78
- STAR background looks clean now
- unfortunately this bump is only suitable for a test
- trying to figure out how to get rid of Au78 in regular running

- very happy about result from background test
