We need a little more time to make some modifications to the water system (additional solenoid valves, changes to control and monitoring, and further diagnosis of the "spare" backup chiller) so we won't have running ECW until later this week, or more likely, next Monday.

That keeps us from running racks normally, but there are some tests that can continue without ECW, like testing of the replacement crate in 3C1, as long as the rack doors are open and you remain conscious of the rack temperature (recall that the shutdown rules of the road require a responsible person to be present in 1008 when power is on).

Sorry for the delay, but we think this will protect the ECW system from the kind of problem we had a few weeks ago.

Hello,

The broken chiller outside 1008C was actually fixed yesterday Oct.
18). But we’d like to make use of this chance to allow the HVAC
group to look into fixing the spare chiller outside 1008C.
Therefore, from our 8:30 am meeting, we’ve decided to turn back on
the ECW only on Monday and you should wait until Monday to turn on/use
any electronics in your racks.

There was a meeting after the initial 8:30 am meeting to discuss
problem/solution related to our observation that the water temperature
seemed to rise even when none of our racks had any chassis running at
all Monday night. ( That meeting included Peter H., Rob P., Lee F.,
John H., Jim M., Joel V. et. al. and didn’t end until 12 pm ! )
One thing that we’ll do before Monday is that when the temperature
is above 85 F, we’ll close out the solenoid valve so that water
won’t flow to the detectors (to cause any leaks etc.).

I’ll start my vacation this Friday (Oct. 20) and will be back Nov. 3
(morning).

If there is any change and any more news, John Haggerty has agreed to
make update in this mailing list.

rack before the end of Wed.

Hello,

We have made a plan with the HVAC, Bob Mckay (BNL F&O) and others to
fix the Chiller in 1008C,

and the plan is to fix it by the end of Wed.

We're trying to keep running the ECW pump at a low level while people
are fixing the Chiller.

Please don't run any electronics (as this would add heat load the
system) until the end of Wed.

We'll send another email then.

Hello,

The chiller outside 1008C has suddenly turned itself off.

So, the ECW water may get warmer which would lead to racks being
turned off.

Right now, no group seem to be using any racks.

We are in a process to get the BNL AC units to come to fix the
chiller....
