- Subject: [Sphenix-run-l] sPHENIX Watch Shifts - week #5
- Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2024 09:09:53 -0400
Hello sPHENIX Collaboration,
sPHENIX is now in the fifth week of 2-person watch shifts with John Haggerty continuing as Period Coordinator!
Note that we will only start 4-person shifts April 16, 2024, which is right at the scheduled start of RHIC cooldown to 4 K. The shift sign up page (https://www.sphenix.bnl.gov/ShiftSignupRun2/) had four-person shifts earlier, and we have given shift credit and emailed the people whose shifts were cancelled. The current cryo-week plan with (19+6 weeks) will then go until October 7, 2024.
The latest progress is the successful reinstallation of the MVTX and cabling up, testing, etc. There remains some issue with the misalignment of the beam pipe relative to the nominal beam line, and mitigation efforts are underway. The shield wall is closing today, which hopefully enables much better humidity control in the IR and hence more continuous operation of the TPC. The plan is to run cosmics this evening with INTT, TPC, TPOT. The sEPD group has completed a full channel mapping. The installation of the MBD is scheduled for Monday, March 25, 2024 and the sEPD will follow approximately a week later. A major DAQ goal for the week is a Big Partition readout of GL1, EMCal, HCal, sEPD, ZDC with zero suppression, random triggers, multi-event buffering = 4 at 15 kHz. Note that all detectors are still under expert control.
Thanks in advance to our fifth set of dedicated shifters pictured below!
* We will continue with daily Shift Change Meetings (SCM) at 3:30 pm ET. We have a daily google doc of notes and "plan of the day" linked from the run page. The Zoom link for the SCM is also given at the top of the Run-2024 web page and repeated below. We will start having a more complete set of detector status reports.
Note that for a couple more weeks, there will also continue to be the 8:30 am ET daily meetings chaired by Jim Mills and John Haggerty.
Sincerely,
Jamie
sPHENIX Run Coordinator 2024
