Hello sPHENIX Collaboration,
sPHENIX is now in the eighth (and last) week of 2-person watch shifts with Rosi Reed as Period Coordinator!
We will start 4-person shifts April 16, 2024, which is at the scheduled start of RHIC cooldown to 4 K. We also have a handful of critical open owl shifts coming up in April/May that really need filling and many open shifts in September / October - check them out and sign up!

Detector re-installation is complete with the final sEPD installation yesterday! The shield wall is closed and the IR is on Restricted Access. Tomorrow the diving board etc. will be removed and the end doors can be closed. Tomorrow RHIC will also be doing a full check of closing up and so the plug door will be closed and there will be no IR access in the morning. On the detector side, we have now been running the GL1, HCal, EMCal, MBD, sEPD, ZDC (i.e., ADC systems) at > 15 kHz with multi-event buffering and random triggers. HCal, EMCal, sEPD have initial zero suppression turned on. Last night the TPC, TPOT, INTT were running with cosmics (vertical and horizontal) with the shift crew taking data and recovering trips between runs. The trigger is set to the TPC readout limit of 30 Hz, and with the Sort out Boxes complete, there is a push to install new TPC firmware that will allow zero suppression and many other key features. The MVTX had a power supply failure, but a swap was done on Friday and they are testing readout this week and will hopefully join the cosmic running soon. Next week we will be able to turn on the magnet, and ** might ** see some first overnight stores around Thursday next week.
Thanks in advance to our eighth set of dedicated shifters pictured below!
* Daily Shift Change Meetings (SCM) at 3:30 pm ET. We have a daily google doc of notes and "plan of the day" linked from the run page. The Zoom link for the SCM is also given at the top of the Run-2024 web page and repeated below. We are having more complete detector status and readiness reports this week.
Note that through April 12, 2024 (only a few more days), there will also continue to be the 8:30 am ET daily meetings chaired by Jim Mills and John Haggerty.
Sincerely,
Jamie
sPHENIX Run Coordinator 2024
