Hello sPHENIX Collaboration,

sPHENIX is now starting "Cryo-Week #4" and the detector is moving from commissioning towards physics ready.    We have been splitting days with noon-midnight for the TPC/TPOT to establish a good operating point and test new firmware and midnight-noon for DAQ/Trigger work and running everyone else.     The shift crew has done a great job taking a large sample of pp minimum bias data (almost 0.99 billion events) with all subsystems (GL1, EMCal, HCal, MBD, sEPD, ZDC/SMD, INTT, MVTX) - particular thanks to JaeBeom for support of this effort.      There was also an important data taking with TPC/TPOT, INTT, MVTX all together with field off.  The data is being quickly reconstructed, DSTs generated, and offline checks being done.    C-AD has been providing reliable stores and is working on steady luminosity improvements  -- currently the  maximum pp collision rates (corresponding to the 42 mb cross section) are around 100 kHz (an order of magnitude from where we need to be)

Below are the sPHENIX slides shown at the weekly RHIC Coordination Meeting.

sPHENIX welcomes a new, intrepid shift crew (pictured below).    We give an extra thanks to outgoing Period Coordinator Megan Connors and welcome Tony Frawley as the new Period Coordinator (pictured below).

Stay connected.    Call into the Daily Shift Change Meetings (SCM) at 3:30 pm ET.    We have a daily google doc of notes and "plan of the day" linked from the run page.   The Zoom link for the SCM is also given at the top of the Run-2024 web page and repeated below.

Lastly, people have done a great job signing up for shifts.    There is a key Owl Shift Leader position open for the week starting July 30, 2024  - that needs an experienced person.   There are some swaps available on the "Trading Market" and there are many shifts available in late August / September!    If each institution can pick up one more shift late in the run that would really help.

Sincerely,

Jamie
