Dear Anne:
Thanks for the clear guidelines, all of which make good sense.
All plots from now on that plot x vs y should have the aspect ratio correct, and not just use the default canvas size.
Best regards,
Bill

Today we expect no-beam / maybe APEX day. We would like to request that subsystems (not including the TPC) focus a part of their SCM reports today and Friday on noting major issues, whether we are taking good physics data with the subsystem, how they know that, and timescale for fixes. Linking a few (3-4 max) from the SCM google doc is fine.
Also, people are working hard and there are challenging, puzzling problems. In such cases, it is best practice to take the time to label axes, have the number number included, remove superfluous stat boxes, label the z-axis and make sure the numbers are visible on the color scale (pick a color scale that works). All plots from now on that plot x vs y should have the aspect ratio correct, and not just use the default canvas size. Plots should identify which data are being plotted.
This may seem like busy work, but it can make a huge difference in debugging problems and saving everyone time. The online monitoring is a good place to start -- for example if the hit rate < 0.5 of expected, that is not "dead". Maybe one more category should be for < 0.01 with a different color. TPC (for example) figures of x versus z should have the real aspect ratio. There are many examples and many root plotting experts around; we are happy to help.
Sincerely,
Jamie and Anne
