Hi Everyone

Today the TPC group brought the chamber to operate at 56x56-bunch fill as the next step in the Isobutane-mixture commissioning  [as in accumulating slides deck]. Run log are summarized by Joe at https://chat.sdcc.bnl.gov/sphenix/pl/986jagim1tf7ip39broe3pc1kc

Although this test is prior to the necessary gain balancing on the TPC GEMs, the results are positive:
  • TPC was stable in 56x56-bunch fill, and for both 0-mard and +1.5mrad crossing angle: this suggest the TPC chamber would be stable at physics-capable working conditions.
  • Data volume is significantly reduced with a MIP-efficient zero suppression setting. And when projected to the 100% streaming configuration, it is plausible to fit into the BBox bandwidth limit.
More details below. On the next steps, we expect to work on the HV divider adjustment for gain balancing early next week, and proceed with full 111x111-bunch fills later in the week

Cheers

Jin

Subject: 28x28-bunched fill GEM stability test run report

Hi Everyone

While the TPC gain balancing is still ongoing, we performed 28x28-bunch fill test with TPC today, which was a 4x increase in beam intensity compared to the last run.

The main goal was to test GEM activity which is summarized below [as in accumulating slides deck]. nonZS big partition data was taken in this condition, which was summarized by Charles at https://chat.sdcc.bnl.gov/sphenix/pl/x7rogxog6igatkfaiderh5e9dc .

The critical path remains with gain balancing TPC under this new operating gas, while we continue to pushing forward towards full lumi operation.
Cheers

Jin

Subject: TPC gain measurement with beam in tracking meeting Wed 11AM

Hi everyone,

Quick reminder that we will use the beginning of the daily tracking meeting at 11AM to discuss analysis of TPC commissioning. https://indico.bnl.gov/event/24184/

In particular, the first beam data with Isobutane gas was collected Tue with the MIP-efficient HV work point determined from the Monday cosmic data [TPC Elog 553]. GEM gain measured with this dataset will allow us to build the

Subject: Special TPC meeting on cosmic data review, Tue July 30 9:30AM.

Hi Everyone

As just discussed in shift change meeting, we will have a special TPC meeting at  Tue July 30 9:30AM tomorrow. Indico and zoom at https://indico.bnl.gov/event/24338/

TPC HV is being ramped for the first time after the new Isobutane gas mixture was circulated since Sat. We aim to collect sufficient cosmic data to establish the new GEM gain and a MIP-efficient HV work point priory to operate with collisions in the next steps.
There could be many changes of the plan depending on factors like the detector response, and power stability etc. So, please stay tuned.

Cheers

Jin
