Hello everyone,
It makes sense to have some proton-proton data taking with the sPHENIX magnet off running, primarily for alignment purposes. I need more specifics on how many events are needed for this alignment (are streaming events fine, or is the specification on triggered events)? Also, it was stated that this should be low luminosity -- I need quantification on what low luminosity means -- smaller number of bunches, steering vertically out of collisions (which then still has the same backgrounds from the tunnel)? Is the goal to have a certain number of collisions within the 10 microsecond MVTX strobe or within the 14 microsecond TPC drift time?
We cannot proceed with the sPHENIX magnet off request until I have some basic guide on the answers above. Rather than a dialog on this email list, if the tracking experts / alignment experts can discuss this today and report at the SCM that would be optimal.
Thanks,
Jamie
