Hi Everyone
Following the outcome of the TPC review last Friday, we used half hour of beam time today to retake the Aug-15 low luminosity zero suppression data, which at that time showed unexpectedly large begin to end of drift hit/track density difference. New data today
(slide below) shows this problem is NOT present in the production zero suppression configuration.
Although it is still unknown the exact cause of the Aug-15 issue, we believe the current production setting seems OK and it does not warrant further physics beam time for investigation.
For the tracking team, this also produced two rarely-seen low luminosity (about one collision per random drift window) big partition run for tracking study, such as the silicon-TPC-TPOT matching: BP Run 53284 (8.5kHz narrow vertex trigger); Run 53285 (100Hznarrow
vertex trigger)

Today we systematically checked TPC stability after the gas system maintenance on Monday and confirmed TPC drift speed consistent with expectation [as

Today we tested data taking for TPC at previously studied working point: full beam intensity, +1.5mrad crossing, 3.3kV on GEM [as
in accumulating slides deck]. Three data taking mode were studied:

non-ZS jet physics run at low rate,

ZS validation run

ZS test with full physics rate and ext. readout window.

Today the TPC group achieved a stable operation of the chamber in the 111x111-bunch fill, following two days of hard work on GEM gain balancing and damage survey/compensation by Tom, Evgeny, Charles, and Luke. This is a great start for step 4 in the Isobutane-mixture
commissioning [as

In meanwhile, significant progress has been made by John Kuczewski on new versions of FEE firmware that stablize high rate zero suppressed data taking. It has been installed on four TPC sectors for final testing with data taking.
We aim to collect a large data set of non-zero suppressed data over the weekend for detailed chamber property studies.

Although this test is prior to the necessary gain balancing on the TPC GEMs, the results are positive:

TPC was stable in 56x56-bunch fill, and for both 0-mard and +1.5mrad crossing angle: this suggest the TPC chamber would be stable at physics-capable working conditions.

Data volume is significantly reduced with a MIP-efficient zero suppression setting. And when projected to the 100% streaming configuration, it is plausible to fit into the BBox bandwidth limit.
More details below. On the next steps, we expect to work on the HV divider adjustment for gain balancing early next week, and proceed with full 111x111-bunch fills later in the week

TPC HV is being ramped for the first time after the new Isobutane gas mixture was circulated since Sat. We aim to collect sufficient cosmic data to establish the new GEM gain and a MIP-efficient HV work point priory to operate with collisions in the next steps.
