Dear Jamie and Dave,
If the dates of these things are going to be decided without consultation
with the likely participants, it would be better if they were announced much
further in advance (even if only informally). These particular dates neatly
bracket the only two days in July when I can not be away from FSU - I could
have avoided that with a bit more advance notice.
Best regards
Tony

Subject: Announcing an sPHENIX simulation workfest in July
Dear PHENIXians,
We are writing to announce an sPHENIX simulation workfest in July:
· Dates: July 27–31, 2015
· Location: Brookhaven National Lab / StonyBrook University. Details to
be announced.
· Website: https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1237
The goal of the workshop is to introduce the fast-evolving sPHENIX simulation
environment, as well as providing a platform for collaborators to work on the
following topics:
· Jet performance with updated detector design
· Jet background subtraction, fake rejection and reaction plane
detection
· Heavy flavor jet/meson study in Geant4
· Exploring hadron physics topics in sPHENIX and in EIC
· Software platform construction
The first day or two of the workfest will focus on introducing the sPHENIX
simulation framework and providing hands-on tutorials. Continuing ahead from
the tutorial we held in May, we will further introduce tracking and jet
evaluations, as well as new software tools. For the later days of the week,
we will break into a few topical groups to work on more specific simulations.
Plenary sessions for topical summaries are planned at the beginning of each
work day.
We encourage groups that are interested in developing the sPHENIX simulation
and physics program to participate in person. To help us with organization,
we invite participants to email Jin Huang <jhuang AT bnl.gov> regarding their
focus topics and their intended dates of attendance.
Regards,
Dave and Jamie
