Hi folks,

so far we have been using PHENIX accounts, anatrain for large simulation projects and phnxreco for our data disks. That worked okay but it had some nasty side effects in terms of file permissions where some files/directories were owned by rhphenix (the PHENIX group id) and became inaccessible to sPHENIX accounts (and STAR accounts with sphenix as secondary group id).

We now have an sphenix group account (sphnxpro) which can run the large scale simulation projects (it has its own quota in condor which was the reason we used the anatrain account). In order to make file accessible to everyone again we will change the ownership of all files and directories on /sphenix/sim/sim01 (and 02) and /sphenix/data/data01 (and 02) to this account. This will make the management of these filesystems a lot easier but it will also limit the use of these filesystems as "private storage for stuff". I want to get these filesystems back to their initially intended use (storing of simulation production output and test beam raw data/reconstructed output).

As alternative for user storage, we do have /sphenix/user for everyone to use as well as the ability to create subsystem and topical group specific filesystems (that proposal did not get any traction but it's still on the table).

For users who run large scale productions which we have done in the past or organize the test beam productions - we would add their key to this account (instead of anatrain/phnxreco).

It still needs a bit of thinking how to get the test beam data from fermi lab over. Group accounts are not accessible on the gateways, so we cannot use them to push data into rcf (from inside BNL you can use rcf3 as bridge between campus and rcf).

Chris
