Hi Everyone

Just a friendly reminder about tomorrow's meeting.  I've been asked by a number of folks what is the purpose since we already have detailed weekly meetings on mechanical engineering and electronics chain designs.  I've also been asked who should attend tomorrow.

The basic purpose of the meeting is to engage the remote institutions that are preparing for factory work in making TPC modules in the future.  The ultimate success of the TPC will be achieved by all our institutions working together to maximum effectiveness.  Although we will not start factory production immediately, it is nonetheless an immediate task that we plan for this phase of the project, so that when the time comes we are able to make the modules in an expert fashion.

Therefore, I would like to certainly see participation from each of our remote locations (Vanderbilt, WIS, PNPI, Temple) in the meeting, but I do not expect that participation from our mechanical and electrical engineers.  The "talks" from each institution need not be more than a single slide about status of their facilities.

Talk to you tomorrow!
Tom

Happy New Year!

I would like to establish a series of regular meetings about "general progress" on the TPC project.  Our current meetings (including the engineering meetings AND the electronics meetings AND the software meetings) are held at a VERY highly detailed level and are not particularly useful for remote or new collaborators to the project.  As an example, we spent most of this Wednesday's engineering meeting discussing the proper alloy for the end ring of the outer field cage prototype and Next Wednesday, we'll be taking about surface prep to improve gluing to this part.

For these general progress meetings, I would like to focus on efforts in preparation for the factory production of TPC modules that will become the critical effort.  Please remember that factory setup will begin before the current calendar (2017) year ends and within a year's time, each factory will need to be making pre-production prototypes as part of their site validation process.

Chatting with a few folks, it seems that Thursday afternoon next week might work.  Although remote participants would prefer earlier in the day, the next L2 manager's meeting blocks the preferred time slot and will be a critical one in preparation for our CD-1 that occurs this coming June.

Let's use my bluejeans link ( https://bluejeans.com/6755372092/ ) and hold the meeting from 1pm to 3pm on Thursday January 19..  I have set up an Indico page here: ( https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=2748 ).

The agenda will include an overview of the factory model from me and VERY VERY VERY BRIEF reports on status from our remote sites.

Thanks!
Tom
