My connect is this:
  • The most important ground connections in terms of noise are:
  • Preamplifier --> Padplane --> HV card (including bypass cap on bottom of GEM4)
  • These connections need to be low inductance.
  • This is partly achieved by having many such connections in parallel (more than 30 per connector; more than 60 per FEE).
  • This is partly achieved by having these connections with minimal line length.
  • Let's call these "signal ground".
All metal items are required to be grounded for safety.
  • These connections should be able to support reasonable currents.
  • They do not, however, have the aspects of multiple in parallel.
  • They do not have length restrictions.
  • Let's call this safety ground.
The common application is that "signal ground" and "safety ground" connect to each other at a remote "earth ground" location.Tom

Dear All,

It was suggested at internal review of AC/DC system (LV,
HV, etc) held in June that it would be useful that we make
an outline of the GND scheme of subsystems. I have been
slow on this, but now I came up with a rough sketch on this.

In the end, we should make an integrated, much sophisticated
drawing. I appreciate any comments/feedback.

Thanks,
Takao
