Hi Gavin,

Thanks for the new numbers. It's a bit strange to me that you entangle different ways of extraction method and integration range in addition to the cut variation in obtaining the systematic uncertainty. It would be a lot easier if you change one thing at a time. Could you do the following:
With the default set of dca, nsigma_k, NormalizationRange, IntegrationMethod, IntegrationRange,
change one thing at a time, and assess the systematic uncertainty for each one.
This would be more reasonable to me as all these five things are independent and are therefore all viable systematic sources.

Why is the number of hits not included as a systematic source?

Best regards,
Fuqiang

Hello Fuqiang,

I just realized those tables are using the wrong numbers, I apologize for this mistake. I have attached the updated tables which reflect the values reported in the preliminary request for QM.

I am following the same systematic error method used in this analysis note (pages 51-54): https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/AnalysisNote_phiSpinAlignment_v08_01.pdf
In this method, when we vary dca, nsigma, or normalization range, we are also varying the yield extraction method and integration range range (see figure 56 on page 52). For one source, say nsigma, the rho_00 max and rho_00 min of the combinations of dca, yield extraction method and integration range are used for the dca source of systematic. In the current analysis this results in 3 final contributions to the systematics from these combinations, which are the dca, nsigma and the normalization range.

In the second-harmonic plane 14GeV result, the default rho_00 is on line 56. For nsigma variations, the rho_00 max and min are found on lines 72 and 67, respectively. The final contribution to the systematic error is found in the file ptDependenceSysSources.txt attached. This files includes all the sources for each energy and EP method.

Best,
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Thanks for sending the numbers. Let me understand a bit more. Take 14 GeV results using the second-harmonic plane as example.

Let's say the default is line 56 in the excel:
dca=2cm, nsigma=2.5, norm.range=[1.04,1.05], use integral method, between [-2Gamma,2Gamma], you get rho_00=0.3482.

I see the dca variations to 2.5 cm and 3 cm are line 58 and 63. The changes in rho00 are 0.0004, 0.0005, respectively.
What syst. uncertainty is assigned for dca variation?

I also see the nsigma varitations to 2 and 3 are line 67 and 71. The changes in rho00 are both 0.
What syst. uncertainty is assigned to nsigma variation?

Best regards,
Fuqiang

Dear Fuqiang,

I have attached the ρ00 values table for the variations used in our systematic error calculation. This table includes the integrated ρ00 from the pT dependent studies for 14.6 GeV with 1st and 2nd order event plane, and 19.6 GeV with 1st order event plane. I have attached the table as an excel and as a text file.

Best,
Gavin

Hi Baoshan,

On s11, you obtain the syst by (max-min)/sqrt(12). I'm a bit wary of that, because one has to be reasonably certain that the variations are truly min to max. Can you compile a table of the rho00 values for all the syst variations?

Best regards,
Fuqiang
