- Date: Mon, 23 Mar 2020 23:07:09 +0000
Attendees: Elke, Flemming, Han-Sheng, Jianing, John, Maowu, Mike, Rahul,
Te-Chuan, Xu, Yi, Zhenyu
Minutes:
0. Influence of coronavirus
The BNL site is closed, only remote design or paper work is possible.
Stay-at-home order issued by Illinois Governor. The Fermilab site is not open
to users except those living onsite.
Jianing/Maowu may return to SDU in 1-2 weeks if the situation keeps improving.
Work at NCKU/NTU/AIDC/EASTON not yet affected
1. Integration
Rahul will contact NLSL to if 50% or more time of a designer is available. In
the meantime, Rahul will spend some time on making the FST integration plan
and design.
Action item:
1) send diameter and bending radius to Rahul - Mike
2) send latest SolidWork drawings of FST modules and disks to John and Rahul
- Yi/Han-Sheng
2. Mechanical structures
1) EASTON is making new mold taking into account the shrinkage of the PEEK
material after cooling down. They are also buying PEEK from different sources
and compare. This may take 3 weeks to make the mold and a few more days to
make the first structures. Yi has contracted a company to measure the surface
flatness of the structures before and after gluing hybrid, and the relative
positions and angles between inner and outer structures
2) Yi and Han-Sheng described a procedure by using NTU equipments (available
before August, may be partially available in Aug-Dec due to sPHENIX) to glue
hybrid onto mechanical structures, where the relative positions between the
hybrid and MS as well as between the inner and outer parts can be monitored
and fixed w.r.t. the design drawings. Regarding the issue of air trap
underneath the hybrid, there is no guaranteed method, but to make the MS
surface as flat as possible, and try different amount and pattern of glue.
The exact steps and requirements will be documents for internal review.
3) may mount the connectors onto the hybrids using machine before gluing the
hybrid to the MS, and mount the other components onto the hybrids manually
after gluing the hybrid to the MS. Will require the company to visually
inspect the soldering and do electrical tests for shorts and opening at NCKU
- need to define which pins/pads to check
Action items:
1). Identify and agree on which features on the backside of the hybrids to
position the hybrids before picking them up. These features should be
included in the hybrid measurements at SDU - Yi/Hansheng, Jianing/Maowu,
2). Provide a detailed document of the procedure and requirements of gluing
hybrids onto MS - Yi/Han-Sheng
3). Define which pins/pads to measure for electrical tests after mounting
components onto the MS - Jianing, Yi
3. Prototype assembly and tests
1) see cosmic signals from outer sensor. Everything else look as expected
except the count rates among different r-strips. Will look into the data and
determine whether this is because of coverage of the scintillators. If not,
it may mean change to sensor design is needed
2) unable to test inner sensors because of open connections between the
connector and hybrid.
Action item:
1) send a T-board and cable to NCKY to check if there is any conflict with
the MS - Zhenyu
4. Tracking studies
Krishan did not attend the meeting. It is unclear whether this is due to
something happening at BNL.
Action item:
1) look for other resources for tracking studies - Zhenyu
