Minutes:
0. follow-ups on the action items from last week (see *** below)
1) Design light-tight box for the DAQ integration test at BNL - Rahul/Flemming
-> Flemming had a look at the FST storage box drawings. Has settled on the
possible light-tight box dimensions and structure.
-> Rahul will check whether abandoned boxes which were used for other
projects can be used. Will look for them and get their dimensions.
2) Finalize how to mount modules onto the half-rings, and half-rings onto
support structure - Rahul/Yi
-> Got confirmation from EASTON that they can make the changes to the
mechanical structure.
-> Zhenyu will discuss with Fermilab engineers whether or not they can
accommodate these changes (waiting for 3)
3) Document the proposed changes in the Mechanical structure - Yi
-> will send by Wednesday
4) Document the procedure and requirements of the module production steps
that NCKU is responsible for - Yi
-> will send a new version tomorrow
5) Look into radiation tolerance test of soft cooling tubes - Yi
-> Got the second batch of tubes back from irradiation. Tests with NOVEC
started.
6) Tune the timing setting for ADC sampling - Xu/Gerard
-> No update
7) Studying the tracking performance by varying the Z-locations of FST disks,
and number of r/phi segments - Daniel/Krishan
-> see below for update on tracking code
-> decide to drop this task.
8) Looking into FST simulation and track reconstruction to compare 300 vs 500
micron thick sensors - Shenghui/Zhenyu
-> See below. Based on the results, this task is considered complete.
9) FST slow simulator with efficiency/resolution measured with prototypes and
study tracking performance - Gavin/Shenghui/Xu
1. Integration
by Rahul Sharma
-> Rahul contacted an external machine shop with wire EDM capability. Initial
quote $50k. Will reach out to machine shops at Universities to see if one can
get a better deal
-> Felix working on detailing the design, putting in the cables and cooling
tubes.
-> Bob Struble made good progress in cooling system. order charcoal filters,
the last missing piece. Rahul discussed with Bob how to set up the test in
Nov with FST module. Also plan to include the soft cooling tube in the test.
2. Tracking Software and Studies by Daniel
Brandenburg, Krishan Gopal
-> Updated the tracking code to have the flexibility to use the old built-in
function or FstFastSimulator to get the smeared FST hits for track
reconstruction
-> Will update the readme and corresponding config file
3. Simulation Studies by
Shenghui Zhang
-> Updated the plots for secondary versus primary particles, by changing the
definition of primary particles.
-> Made material budget plot for FST with some tricks to get around some
technical problem of the tool. The results seem to be reasonable.
-> ~5% extra material to that of [Beam Pipe+FST] by changing from 300 to 500
micron Silicon. Number of secondary particles produced from FST increase by
5%.
Conclusion: Changes are negligible.
4. Prototype Module Assembly and Test by Xu Sun, Gavin
Wilks, Zhenyu Ye
-> Discussed Issues with module assembly at Fermilab: 1) displacement of
chips: find out where the problem come from and correct 2) chip/sensor
wire-bonding: ask Fermilab technician to take a close look at FST04 during
assembly and provide detailed feedbacks and assessment
-> First fully assembled and working FST module. Inner sensor behaves as
expected
Action items:
For FST04 assembly
1) measure positions at Fermilab before mounting chips/sensors
2) document issues and provide an assessment whether the quality of FST04 is
acceptable for production
5. Mechanical structure by Yi
Yang
-> Got the second batch of tubes back from irradiation. Tests with NOVEC
started.
-> Sent FST04 to Zhenyu last week
-> Easton is ok with the proposed changes to the design. Use customized
precision bushing and pins.
Action item: measure directly the pads on hybrids w.r.t. reference points on
module at NTU for future hybrid-MS assembly work
6. F2F Meeting and Production Readiness Review
-> Yi available after 10:30am for both F2F and review
-> invited reviewers, Jim Stewart (chair), Gerrit (Silicon), Jim Mills
(Mechanics), Maybe one more
-> Flemming working on the charge for the review.
-> Prepare documents for review
