Hello Gerard, All,

We have finished connecting all of the grey cables to the ABC boards in the FST crate. Cables ties were chained together and connected to the horizontal metal bar behind each set of ABCs to support the weight of the cables. Also, the remaining length of the cables were fixed to the front edges of the crate to move them out of the way / add more support. I have attached photos of the connections made today and the overall cable layout in the crate.

You requested that the cables attach to the sidewall of the crate, but due to the weight of the cables the mounting pieces were repeatedly pulled off the wall of the crate. The cables on the top and middle should be easy enough to carefully push to the side if the PS box needs to be removed, but the bottom is more challenging.

Please let us know your thoughts.

Best,
Gavin

hi Christian, Zhenyu, Xu, Gavin,
I would like to point out two considerations for the grey cables at the racks, which were successfully taken into account for FGT and IST, and I am sure can be taken into account now for FST:
  • The weight of the cables hanging vertically in the rack (going down from the crate) must mostly be supported with cable ties to the sidewalls of the rack. There should be no significant force on the cable connectors / ABC boards. Of course also please have enough slack there that any ABC board can be replaced without decabling everything.
  • The cables going vertically past the rear of crates should be dressed off to the sidewalls of the rack sufficiently to enable removing the crate power supply box from the rear of the crate without decabling everything. Keep in mind that the PS box may have to be replaced in a short access someday.
I looked for but didn't find any pictures from IST showing these things. GMT has few cables but I guess we did it similarly so you can look at that. I think we brought most/all the grey cables up through the middle section of the rack where they're completely out of the way of the rear of the crates. (But, then don't obstruct the water hoses too much nor put force on them.)
Above comments are sort of obvious I hope, but since I'm not there to just discuss while looking at things, I send it here in email. Thanks for all the hard work!

         Gerard

Hi All,

The bulk of the cable pull is complete.
We ran the cables under the floor tiles rather than using the trays, to avoid the badly congested points where the trays meet the magnets.
I’ll send a drawing with the details around later today.

The cables still need to be dressed at both ends.
Zhenyu, Xu, and Gavin will take care of the connections at the rack, with slack cable going under the floor at the south edge of the platform.

I will dress what I can of the endcap cables.
Is it ok to connect the wires to the PPBs, or should we wait until the cooling lines have been installed?

Christian
