Hi All,

Prompted by todays discussion I decided to really look at the code and an old thesis of the main GenFit developer.

From this I was able to solve the charge bias issue by learning two things:

  • Genfit DOES fit q/p
  • GenFit has something of a silent failure mode when (incorrectly) multiple track reps of the same particle mass but opposite charge are used.

As I said during the meeting the purpose of the TrackReps is for energy loss, (not fixing charge) – After fixing this and a few other things with the track fitting I see very healthy q/p distributions (can cross zero) and a much improve charge matrix (Rc vs. Mc) even when I provide only a single (initially neg) track rep.

You can see some plots and details on the wiki here:

https://github.com/jdbrice/star-sw-1/wiki/GenFit-Notes

So as you can see - the discussion in our meetings and having other check things is really helping make progress.

I am incorporating a few other fixes and I’ll notify everyone when the `dev` branch is updated for further tests

Best
