Hi Lanny,

There may be a mis understanding here. I asked the STAR production team to produce the recently taken sTGC cosmic data. In the meantime I also talked with Ting and saw if he would be able to look at those data, and the answer was no. Now the production has finished the request and all the files are available on disk. I learned also that the sTGC group would have someone to look at the data.

However I think Ting brought a very important topic that we didn’t know if the offline QA code would handle the data from the new detector. The cosmic data provided a good opportunity to set the offline QA code up if I’m not mistaken. Given we have not  just sTGC but also the other two, FST and FCS, adding new features to the code is very important. As I said again, it was never early to be prepared. When the physics data came, we would just ran it. It is not my job to make the call. I agree with Ting, things should be discussed and sorted out during the future meetings.

Thanks,
Zilong

Hi Ting:

Yes, fast offline only processes physics production data.
And yes, fast offline can handle additional detectors, please
contact Gene for details.

Thanks,
Lanny

Hi Lanny and Mariusz:

Okay, but I think the cosmic has the same data format as collision data, so it mean the code is setup to only look at the collision data?

Another question, is it easy to add new variables into the offline QA framework, like sTGC variables?

Or maybe we can discuss this during the meeting tomorrow.

Thanks.
Ting

Hi Mariusz,

Fast offline QA does not examine cosmic data. We are waiting for collisions
and the declaration that physics quality collisions have begun. Hopefully this
will happen later next week.

Cheers,
Lanny

Dear Lanny,
I do not see any current runs in the web browser which is supposed to be
used by the QA shifter.
If they are only available in the root files generated by Lidia, then I
would need to know which ones exactly I should look at, and where can I
find any reference histograms?

I will join the meeting tomorrow.

Best regards,
Mariusz
