Hi, Zilong & Ting
Please take the following explanations as input for further discussions and planning...
The long-standing framework for Offline QA that has been used by the shift crews and subsystem experts for many years is easily modified to include any StEvent-based input. In its default operation, it requires primary vertices to be found in
events for which it includes data into the histograms, as well as "production level" trigger ids in such events, but it was recognized long ago that there are times, particularly at the beginning of any Run year, when all events may be of interest, so a BFC
chain option "QAallTrigs" enables this and should be included in any future requests for cosmic data if there is interest in viewing such data through this framework.
As for which data is processed through FastOffline, it is currently configured to automatically process st_physics stream files from non-test runs in which the TPC was included. However, any runs and files may be requested for production by the
period coordinator and subsystem points of contact established before the Run year started.
Thanks,
-Gene

Hi Lanny,
There may be a mis understanding here. I asked the STAR production team to produce the recently taken sTGC cosmic data. In the meantime I also talked with Ting and saw if he would be able to look at those data, and the answer was no. Now the production has finished the request and all the files are available on disk. I learned also that the sTGC group would have someone to look at the data.
However I think Ting brought a very important topic that we didn’t know if the offline QA code would handle the data from the new detector. The cosmic data provided a good opportunity to set the offline QA code up if I’m not mistaken. Given we have not just sTGC but also the other two, FST and FCS, adding new features to the code is very important. As I said again, it was never early to be prepared. When the physics data came, we would just ran it. It is not my job to make the call. I agree with Ting, things should be discussed and sorted out during the future meetings.
Thanks,Zilong

Hi Ting:
Yes, fast offline only processes physics production data. And yes, fast offline can handle additional detectors, pleasecontact Gene for details.
Thanks,Lanny

Okay, but I think the cosmic has the same data format as collision data, so it mean the code is setup to only look at the collision data?
Another question, is it easy to add new variables into the offline QA framework, like sTGC variables?
Or maybe we can discuss this during the meeting tomorrow.
Thanks.Ting

Hi Mariusz,
Fast offline QA does not examine cosmic data. We are waiting for collisionsand the declaration that physics quality collisions have begun. Hopefully thiswill happen later next week.
Cheers,Lanny

Subject: Re: QA Board Meeting Dec 3Dear Lanny,
I do not see any current runs in the web browser which is supposed to be
used by the QA shifter.
If they are only available in the root files generated by Lidia, then I
would need to know which ones exactly I should look at, and where can I
find any reference histograms?
I will join the meeting tomorrow.
Best regards,
Mariusz
