FYI … Anybody got old obsolete/spare components they would like to donate to NSF? (presumably something that is NSF scope)

Dear All

I’m passing along this request for artifacts. Are there interesting curios, such as obsolete components from ATLAS, CMS, and LIGO that you might consider making available to NSF?

Mark

Colleagues…

I had a great conversation with the NSF Historian, Leo Slater, this afternoon.  Here’s what he’s looking for:

“NSF in Alexandria, VA, is putting some of its history on display—2020 is our 70th anniversary. We want to tell engaging stories about the great work done by the whole NSF community. To begin with, we are setting up some display cases in the more public-facing parts of the building. These cases are glass and about 6ft by 6ft overall, so we are talking about shelves that are 18in deep, 36in wide, and have (somewhat) variable heights. Therefore, at this time, we are looking for smaller objects/artifacts. We very much want to tell stories about our Facilities and are hoping that you might have, or know of, some cool stuff and some cool stories. Please contact me, Leo Slater (lslater AT nsf.gov) with any suggestions, ideas, or questions.  Thank you!”

This is apparently a high priority for OD.  Any assistance that you or our Recipients could provide would be much appreciated.  Please contact Leo directly.

Matt
