Hi all,
Just a quick reminder (for those of you who haven't already done so) to please send me your updated I&I budgets to reach the $12M total goal as well as impact statements and updated risks. I need to have input from all of you by *Wednesday, 21-Aug* in
order to close the loop on this with Operations.
The Muon System (thanks Anyes!) has prepared a very nice Impact Statement and associated Additional Risks (attached). These might be helpful to the rest of you as you prepare your versions. A couple of comments on these documents...
1. We will need to work on introductory text for all of the Impact Statements that avoids implying that we are shifting tasks from Operations to MREFC scope. Rather, we want to state that we are decreasing Operations I&I risk by enhancing the "surface
integration" activities that each system will perform. I will prepare some example text early next week.
2. Muons have chosen to quantify the impact of not enhancing surface integration activities, by analyzing what would happen if these activities were simply not done and the current MREFC deliverables were just installed in their final locations (UX15,
USA15,...) without additional integration. This seems like a good strategy for quantifying impact - easy to explain. But if it doesn't work for your system, then feel free to try alternate fall-back scenarios. In the end, the goal is to set the scale of the
impact if we are not able to exercise the enhanced surface integration Scope Opportunity items.
3. We will want to quantify the *change* in risk that not performing enhanced surface integration will provoke. As Muons have done, please indicate how much existing risks would change and if there are any new risks if enhanced surface integration is not
possible. We'll probably want to make a table of increased cost and schedule risk by L2 system.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks - Hal
