Hi Prakhar,
Thank you for the question.
If we place filter in the low pressure side, it is very hard to fine tune the TBPR. Also, these
fine filters are not build to place in low pressure line.
We always use cleaned and caped coils copper tubing as first line of defense, then power blow
as we build, finally before connecting to the detector blow clean air for many days. Once you seal all the lines, there is no way dust get into the system. Two possible ways of dust in the system is, one from the gas supply, second from silica gel absorber.
That is why, the filter is after the absorber. When we are in the high pressure side, we have lot of freedom to play with the pressure. This is also the reason the system is tested for high pressure (30 psi), in case if we want to increase the pressure.
Thanks,
Prashanth

Hi Prashanth,
Thanks for sending them around in advance.
I think ½ micron particle filter should be closer to the detector to avoid any line impurities to get in.
Also, particle filters add impedance in the line, maybe having more inlets and outlets is better in terms of flow rate.
Thanks,
Prakhar

Hi Beni,
I agree...
Here choice of 30 psi is the highest number system can handle and for safety approval, system will be tested for 1.5 times
the 30 psi limit. And a certified pressure relief valve will be placed in the line. When we operate, we can reduce it to the lowest pressure which is sufficient desired flow rate.
Similar scenario happened for the system I am managing now. System is tested for 30 psi, but operates at about 10 psi.
For this system flow rate is 200 cc/min at 2 mBar above atm. For this system tank blanketing pressure regulator is kept in the experimental area (IP6 west alcove, at RHIC). We kept close to the detector, because this detector uses pentane, which liquefies. For
the pfrhich, it is N2 and the flow rate is high, so we have some freedom to move around.
Considering ePIC strong magnetic field and the space availability, we should keep outside the experiment. Please see attached
images that we have currently. Except this is for a four channel system, and ¼ in lines, rest is going to be similar. May be after reviewing few more times, we can request for a space in the assembly area.
Thanks,
Prashanth

Hi Prashanth,
where do you envision the location of the "Tank Blanketing Pressure Regulator"?
The reason I am asking is that any pressure of 1 bar and more above atmospheric
pressure will be considered "pressure vessel" and subject to much more stringent
safety regulations. Therefore I propose a design where this regulator is outside
of the experimental hall or keep the supply line below 14 psi. Maybe you also want
a buffer tank?
cheers,
Beni
