Dear Nikolai,

I agree, "special" team should be involved. I am not a formal gas system expert, I gained the expertise from recent few years of working at STAR TPC gas system and building the STAR sTGC gas system. I was approached by pfRHIC management to start working on the pfRHIC gas system. I am sure there will be reviews involving experts or part of the team.

When I was approached with the requirements, quality control of vent gas was not present. This idea was developed during our last meeting. In my understanding, this is not needed if we control the quality of the supply gas and maintain a positive pressure inside the chamber.

Outgassing was brought up during the meeting, again in my understanding it should go down with purging. If the budget allows, H2O, O2 or other contamination monitoring can be added. But, this can drive up the cost by factors. With low vent pressure, sampling of this gas requires a compressor too. The system I have presented doesn't involve any safety interlocks(PLCs), unnecessary complications may require one, which can be another cost and safety approvals.

I am still learning. If you would be kind to show me your setup, I would like to learn from it. Sorry for the long reply!

Thanks,
Prashanth

Dear All,
just a couple comments after the gas system was discussed.
1. In all large scale experiments there is a "special" team / experts to design, construct, utilize, control the gas system(s) for all detectors
So, it is rather early to discuss exactly what should be done.
And there is a sense to rely on expertise from knowledgeable people which made it in STAR and (s)PHENIX.
2. For the test beam we have (at Yale) ready to be used gas system with all needed parts including gas quality control (H2O, O2). We can  take a responsibility if such a decision is taken.
Best regards, Nikolai.

  Dear All,

We will have our DSC meeting tomorrow Thursday February 8th starting at 12pm EST:

, with the vessel / mirror PED work updates, and the gas system design discussion as main agenda topics.

Also, we were asked to request space at BNL for storage and assembly purposes. Let's have an informal discussion on this topic (and how do we see the detector assembly process in general) among other AOB ones.

  Regards,
    Alexander.
