Dear All,
As suggested during a discussion in a weekly meeting yesterday, we propose to cancel
the 2024 pfRICH beam test at Fermilab (or elsewhere). The rationale is illustrated in the slides
https://indico.bnl.gov/event/22562/contributions/88145/attachments/52991/90632/ayk-2024-02-29-pfrich-meeting.pdf, and is essentially based on the anticipated EIC Project CD-2/3 timelines, (lack of) availability of a sufficiently long beam time period at
FTBF per se, and concerns about our own readiness to this campaign should it have happened in May this year.
The proposal is to focus on lab evaluation of the components (aerogel, HRPPDs) and PED work (vessel, mirrors, front end) in 2024 and consider having an extended test run at Fermilab in early spring 2025, well ahead of the CD-2/3 reviews.
Please send your comments / suggestions to the list, and let's take a final decision Thursday next week.
Regards,
Alexander.
