Hi BNLers,
You are of course keeping the telework sheet up to date but be sure it’s up to date on Wed next week. It’s a tool our group has to cross check who shows up with who we expected (modulo vacations etc.). Always helpful to have advance warning when we’ll have to shelter in place.

Site-wide Shelter-in-place Exercise Wednesday, 10/11

Brookhaven Lab's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will conduct a shelter-in-place exercise on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from approximately 1 to 1:15 p.m. All staff, users, and guests on site at that time are required to participate. No action is required for those off site.

This exercise will demonstrate the ability of Laboratory personnel to receive emergency communication messages, and safely and effectively shelter indoors.

At the start of the exercise, the phone emergency notification system (PENS) will distribute a message, instructing people to proceed to the nearest shelter-in-place assembly area.

The Lab's site siren will emit a steady tone for four minutes, alerting all who are outside at the Lab to go inside the nearest building and proceed to the shelter-in-place area.

At the shelter-in-place areas, local emergency coordinators (LECs) will record the names of all who are present, provide information about the exercise, and explain other precautions in the event of an actual emergency.

The end of the exercise will be announced through PENS. All can then return to their regular activities.

To learn about emergency preparedness tools, visit OEM's "What To Do In An Emergency" webpage (https://www.bnl.gov/emergency-services/emergency-management/siteinfo.php).
