Hi, all
Sharing my two cents, with the admission that I don't generally attend these
coffees as I'm not a morning person (and my child tends to dominate the
mornings I have), so I may not fully appreciate the needs:
If a coffee session has a focus topic, it will be treated like a meeting:
more people may attend as they will begin to feel an obligation to do so (I
would personally feel obligated to attend an NP-specific coffee session). I
think this runs counter to the "just show up if you want to chat informally"
principle of a coffee time, as well as counter to the cross-polination that
can come from just listening in to something that isn't specific to your
field.
I've also got the post-work-from-home time in mind: it shouldn't completely
replace people seeing each other and informally gathering along the halls,
but this online coffee session could continue to be useful for those who
aren't at the BNL offices and could be held whether or not Torre's there to
host it.
Thanks,
-Gene
